Vice President Finance Summary: The position requires sound knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) particularly as they relate to nonprofits grant accounting financial statement preparation creating/uploading journal entries coordinating the distribution of routine financial reports maintaining/updating monthly accounting schedules preparation of GL account reconciliations preparation of schedules relating to audits period closings and internal reporting and the analysis and reconciliation of investment activity. Responsibilities:- With the CFO develops analytical processes and reporting to provide feedback to leadership on key indicators and metrics.
- Develops and prepares financial statements and related reporting.
- With the CFO develops and prepares budgets & forecasts and explains variances for fiscal financial reporting grant reporting and other financial reporting functions.
- General Ledger journal entry preparation and account analysis related to the completion of monthly financial statements.
- Develops analyzes and reports activity between financial systems such as Accounts Receivable Accounts Payable Payroll credit card processing etc.
- Observes and documents processes and procedures to all aspects of Finance and Operations functions; as well as provide input on areas for improvement with a particular focus to include annual campaign pledge processing of cash and related internal controls.
- Understands and performs complex accounting and financial analysis of accounting for campaign donor contributions grant funding and other forms of revenue expense and net assets.
- Reviews and approves supporting financial documents and functions related to monthly financial statement presentations for accuracy.
- Performs complex financial information systems setup and operation to maintain financial reporting in accordance with accounting guidelines.
- Ensures internal and accounting controls are in place to protect the organizations financial assets.
- Reviews and ensures all journal entries are properly supported.
- Stays current with GAAP and other pertinent regulatory announcements.
- Coordinates the audit engagement and independent auditors including preparation of audit reports work papers and materials needed for the financial audit. Evaluates findings and recommendations reported and develops appropriate audit responses and recommendations.
- Presents internal financial statements to the Finance Committee and interacts with the Finance Committee for any requests or analysis as needed.
- Prepares complex financial analysis including overhead and efficiency rate analysis based on forecast and budget results and community care fund availability.
- Compiles work papers and supporting schedules for the preparation of the 990 tax return. Reviews and reconciles 990 tax returns to audited financial statements.
- Monitors cash needs and availability including case reserves analysis. Establishes a cash forecasting process.
- Responsible for accounting for endowed gifts.
- Supports internal management with weekly campaign reporting.
- Reviews the biweekly payroll processing and ensure all ledger and cash transactions are recorded properly.
- Assists with campaign and Pledges/Accounts receivables processing; including the role of backup for the completion of bank deposits.
- Assists with the campaign and Donor Designation Distribution processing; including the role of backup.
- Assists CFO with special projects and other duties as assigned.
- Maintains accurate and organized data entry and file management to ensure the integrity and accessibility of information across systems.
Supervisory Responsibilities: - Builds leads and mentors a team of fundraising volunteer and marketing professionals both internal and external.
- Interviews hires and trains staff in the department.
- Oversees the daily workflow of the department.
- Conducts timely and constructive performance evaluations.
Required Skills and Abilities: - Ability to communicate and work weel with all departments in the organization.
- Ability to problem solve and investigate anomalies in financial results.
- Ability to keep confidential information.
- English proficiency sufficient for communication with supervisors coworkers clients and customers.
- Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or government regulations.
- Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers clients customers and the general public.
- Knowledge of accounting software database software MS PowerPoint MS Outlook MS Excel and MS word.
Education and Experience: - Bachelors Degree (required) from a fouryear college or university in Business/Finance/Accounting.
- 57 years experience in finance with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial role.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred
