Summary of Job Duties:

The Learning Commons IT Support Specialist is a fulltime benefitseligible position within the Ottenheimer Library that is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Learning Commons hardware and software support. The Learning Commons (LC) is a centralized common area located in the Ottenheimer Library for students of UA Little Rock to gather and seek assistance in skill development and a variety of courses. The LC houses four university academic assistance centers: The University Writing Center Math Assistance Center Communication Skills Center and Trojan Tutoring. This collaborative space is an accessible learning space where students find the academic support they need to be successful and achieve their goals.
The Learning Commons IT Support Specialist will work with the Library IT Coordinator to perform installation preventive maintenance and repair of computers peripherals and miscellaneous office equipment in the Learning Commons. Additionally this individual will support Ottenheimer Library technology and perform afterhours support as needed. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.


Qualifications:

Required Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors degree or an equivalent of education and work experience plus a minimum of two 2 years of relevant professional experience including experience with customer service computer or technologyrelated services and desktop support.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors degree in an appropriate area of specialization and two 2 years of relevant professional experience. Experience with customer service computer or technologyrelated services desktop support systems management and automation computer accessibility support and archival/library applications.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Ottenheimer Library IT Coordinator ensure accessible student technology in the Learning Commons Library and Adaptive Technology Lab;

  • Perform system management for laptops desktops and other technologies including setups configurations repairs deployments software updates patch management and preventive maintenance;

  • Maintain inventory of over 400 laptops for circulation to students.

  • Provide direct support to faculty staff and students both virtually and in person within the library;

  • Provide training and technical guidance to student employees who serve as technology tutors ensuring they follow IT best practices;

  • Consult with Learning Commons directors and employees on a variety of technology issues including new equipment purchases software options and other solutions;

  • Report on statuses successes problems and outages in a professional and timely manner;

  • Coordinate with the service desk operations within the universitys IT Services;

  • Ensure the documentation of procedures standards project management activities and change control processes;

  • Perform other duties as assigned.
