Project

The Woodfibre LNG Project is located approximately 7 km westsouthwest of Squamish British Columbia. It involves the construction and operation of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility on the previous Woodfibre pulp mill site which would have a storage capacity of 250000 m3 and would produce approximately 2.1 million tons per year of LNG.

Woodfibre Management Ltd. is a privately held Canadian company based in Vancouver and a subsidiary of Pacific Energy Corporation Limited.

Position

The Site Environmental Lead is an integral part of Woodfibre LNGs dynamic team. You will be working as part of the Woodfibre LNG site environmental team to support the successful implementation of the project. As part of this team you will have multiple responsibilities including playing a key role in the development and implementation of the owners environmental monitoring program and monitoring and analyzing projects environmental performance. The successful candidate reports to the Site Environmental Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

The successful applicant will:

  • Develop and implement Woodfibre LNGs environmental monitoring program including the development of and successful implementation of the environmental monitoring plan monitoring processes and materials (e.g. audit checklists).
  • Working closely with External and Indigenous Relations teams develop and implement Woodfibre LNGs Indigenous environmental monitoring requirements in accordance with the Impact Benefit Agreements with Squamish Nation and TsleilWaututh Nation.
  • Oversees site audits reporting and collaboratively develop corrective actions in accordance with the environmental monitoring program.
  • Ensure prompt and thorough environmental reporting.
  • Provide leadership on site in support of the Site Environmental Manager to oversee environmental performance of contractors and staff on site.
  • Analyze and evaluate business impacts from environmental policy and regulation changes and develop strategies to mitigate environmental and project risks.
  • Analyze and support implementation of Net Zero policy and related environmental initiatives during construction.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Regulatory Team to achieve and maintain necessary authorizations permits or amendments. Manage consultants contractors and external parties to support regulatory permitting and compliance initiatives. Assist as appropriate to information requests by regulators and agencies.
  • Establish appropriate interfaces with project and corporate resources including the EPC contractor securing their participation and compliance with applicable permits commitments policies and procedures as required.
  • Advise team members on environmental requirements and provide input to other processes including engineering and corporate affairs.
  • Provides leadership through a personal commitment to influence overall safety behavior; demonstrates 100 compliance with company HSSE policies and guidelines.


Requirements

Required Experience:

  • Degree or Diploma qualifications relevant for the position (environmental biology ecology engineering resource management or related environmental discipline) and over 5 years experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in BC environmental regulatory and environmental management 5 years in similar role with increasing seniority) for large natural resources or infrastructure projects.
  • Experience developing and implementing Environmental Management Systems
  • Experience interpreting and applying provincial and federal Environmental Assessment approvals would be an asset.

Additional Requirements:

  • Proven ability to work with a culturally diverse group of people including Indigenous Groups with a cooperative teamorientated approach.
  • Familiar with typical environmental management plans community plans and implementation plan to meet Environmental Assessment commitments familiar with consultation requirements and processes as part of successful plan implementation.
  • Experience working with large multidisciplinary teams and contractors in a multicultural environment is an asset.
  • Communication/interpersonal skills to be able to interact with front line workers through to management and all hierarchical levels.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to be innovative and visionoriented with demonstrated ability to undertake both strategic planning and implementation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and handle multiple tasks and changing priorities within tight time frames.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Expertise with a variety of computer programs (e.g. MS Office365/ Teams/ Acrobat/ DocuSign) and environmental management systems.
  • Motivated and willing to take ownership of tasks.
  • Energetic in pursuit of continuous improvement processes.
  • Shares knowledge readily and encourages personal development.
  • A valid drivers license and passport.
  • As required the position is based in Squamish BC with travel to Vancouver.
