KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Operates and sets up a variety of machines/tools which are used to produce parts. Operation and set up includes but is not limited to the following:
Studies sample parts blueprints drawings and engineering information to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and to determine product dimensions and tolerances.
Supports metalworking projects from planning and fabrication through assembly inspection and testing using knowledge of machine functions metal properties and mathematics.
Sets up adjusts and operates basic machine tools as well as specialized or advanced variation tools to perform precision machining operations.
Sets up and operates metalworking brazing heattreating welding and cutting equipment.
Designs fixtures tooling and experimental parts to meet special engineering needs.
Programming:
Programs computers and electronic instruments such as numerically controlled machine tools.
Set controls to regulate machining or enter commands to retrieve input or edit computerized machine control media.
Installing:
Installs repaired parts into equipment or installs new equipment.
Fits and assembles parts to make or repair machine tools.
Testing Maintaining and Evaluating:
Analyzes and monitors machines or equipment to diagnose malfunctions/defects. Determine needs for adjustments/ repairs and replaces defective parts as needed.
Ensures new programs or machinery meet and conform with required specifications.
Tests experimental models under simulated operating conditions for such purposes as development standardization and feasibility of design.
Cleans and maintains machines tools and equipment including removing grease rust stains and foreign matter.
Evaluates experimental procedures and recommends modifications for improved efficiency and adaptability to setup and production.
Operate equipment to verify operational efficiency
Other:
Provides guidance and coaching to less experienced machinists.
Leads higher technical level projects and machinery operations.
Establishes work procedures for fabricating new structural products using a variety of metalworking machines.
Advises clients about the materials being used for finished products.
Confer with engineering supervisory and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information.
Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Education: High school diploma or equivalent and related technical training.
Experience: Typically requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment which includes machining fixture design electronics pneumatics and welding.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Advanced knowledge of and experience in effectively performing routine to complex machinist tasks which include operations setup installation programming testing and evaluation of machines and equipment.
Broad indepth technical knowledge related specifically to the business product.
Experience in solving routine to complex technical problems/issues driving corrective actions with minimal supervision and providing recommendations to improve processes.
Ability to act as a resource to less experienced employees by providing guidance training and mentoring.
Demonstrates a broad understanding of production processes. Demonstrated skills and abilities associated with machinist tasks.
Ability to function as a team while completing multiple tasks effectively with minimal supervision.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Above average computer literacy and math abilities.
