Dorchester County Public Schools is currently accepting applications for a Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Teacher. Working under the direction of the Supervisor of Career and Technology Education and the Principal of DCTC this position works with students in decision making interpersonal development and academic growth by providing the strategies resources and instruction to enable each student to meet the demands of Maryland Career and Technical Education Standards.
DUTIES:
- Establishes relationships with colleagues students parents and the business community that enrich the school experience.
- Plans for and utilizes a variety of instructional methods resources and assessment techniques which motivate all individual students or student groups to achieve learning objectives.
- Establishes learning objectives consistent with appraisal of student needs requirements of DCPS curriculum framework and knowledge of human growth and development.
- Work to ensure that all students succeed in their CTE program and graduate with the skills knowledge and attitudes to become successful employees and responsible citizens.
- Takes all necessary and safety precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Appraises his/her own effectiveness and demonstrates successful application of skills and information acquired to increase effectiveness. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law DCPS policy and administrative regulation.
- Prepares and maintains lesson plans for classes assigned and shows evidence of preparation in alignment with the expectations outlined in the observation handbook upon request of supervisor.
- Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Assists in upholding and enforcing school rules administrative procedures and board polices.
- Fulfills the terms of the written contract for the Teachers Unit of Dorchester Educators
- Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required;
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Eligible for and hold prior to appointment the Maryland State Department of Education License for Biology 712 or related endorsement in accordance with COMAR 13A.12.02.06.
- Possess a Bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
- Able to operate equipment/machinery as needed in the instruction in the biomedical science field.
- Willingness to acquire knowledge of Dorchester County Public Schools curriculum techniques for integrating curriculum Dorchester County Public Schools policies and effective instructional practice.
- Understanding of the teaching/learning process.
- Ability to provide instruction that reflects multiple perspectives and multicultural education.
- Ability to infuse technology into curriculum.
- Ability to work effectively with administrators colleagues central office and schoolbased staff students parents and community.
- Excellent oral and written communication and human relations skills.
- Willingness to complete DCPS provided professional development sessions during the summer of 2025 and continue to participate until the candidate completes training in all 4 PLTW BioMed courses which may necessitate participation in summer training beyond 2025. Please note participation in inperson training sessions is preferred.
