Staff Accountant (SA) 40 hours a week Fulltime) Exempt

BUILD is looking for an experienced professional to join our team as a Staff Accountant! But be advised this is not your typical plugandplay accounting shop. Were in the middle of a substantial overhaul of our accounting infrastructure to support our tremendous ongoing growth and we need your passion for precise accounting process improvement and best practices. Youll work closely with the CFO and Controller with the opportunity to make your mark with an established and respected nonprofit leader providing vital services to Chicagos rising west side. If this sounds exciting then wed love to hear from you! This position will report to the CFO and does not supervise any staff.


Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Draft & utilize standardized rollforward monthly schedules.
  • Document processes to update our Process & Procedure Manuals.
  • Post period transactions to general ledger
  • Make accruals in accordance with established procedures and in accordance with GAAP.
  • Maintain detailed grant voucher tracking data sources.
  • Develop and maintain relevant data sets to support budgets financial plans and forecasts for the organization.
  • Analyze budgets and forecasts to identify potential problems and opportunities
  • Facilitate collaboration between Finance Grants and Accounting teams and key stakeholders within the organization.
  • Analyze financial trends and data to make recommendations maximize grant funds utilization.
  • Assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements

Needtohaves:

  • Bachelors/Associates degree in accounting finance or related field of study.
  • At least 2 years of experience in financial bookkeeping or accounting roles.
  • Strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with QuickBooks Desktop specifically using clearing accounts/subledgersadjusting fields/views and customizing financial reporting.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule five days per week at our beautiful brandnew offices.
  • Intermediate Excel skills i.e.: Working with tables and functions such as SUMIF COUNTIF Remove Duplicates and Text to Columns.
  • Proficiency in complex accounting structures e.g.: Hierarchical nested accounts and class codes many public and private funding sources highly structured naming conventions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfort with asking questions when something isnt clear rather than making assumptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Detailoriented with the ability to multitask.

Nicetohaves:

  • Advanced Excel skills including VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP IndexMatch macros pivot tables data queries solid data table management techniques).
  • Preference for proper process documentation.
  • Experience with nonprofit accounting.
  • Familiarity with thirdparty platforms including Paylocity Expensify Little Green Light and/or Apricot.
  • Understandingwhy that green M&M clause was really in those concert riders.
  • Knowledge of intercompany accounting principles.
