Job Description

We are looking for a policy trainee with a background in economics or political science and strong quantitative skills. While the candidate will be expected to work across a range of policy fields those with experience and/or interest in justice and home affairs or digital and data policy are especially encouraged to apply. The trainee will work closely with the policy team and be involved in our policy research and analysis activities including evaluation impact assessment stakeholder consultation and cost/benefit assessments. This is a unique opportunity to join an outstanding and committed multidisciplinary team of experts. The trainee contract is for a 6month period and is a paid contract. There is the possibility of a formal appointment after that time.

The work of a policy trainee will include:

  • Gathering information and conducting research through desk studies collection of quantitative data and stakeholder consultation via emails and interviews
  • Supporting project management including communication with clients partners and external experts and internal/external reporting tasks
  • Supporting the organisation and implementation of project events such as workshops and meetings
  • Supporting data analysis and the drafting of sections of reports and other deliverables under the supervision of senior team members

Key qualifications for the position:

  • Masters degree or higher in economics or political science
  • At least 1 year of relevant professional experience (including European public policy analysis)
  • Knowledge (and experience) of quantitative data collection and analysis methods (e.g. regression analysis timeseries analysis and quasiexperimental research designs)
  • A sincere interest in public policy and willingness to work across different policy areas as necessary
  • Experience in conducting and analysing surveys is an advantage
  • Well organised practicalminded and able to prioritise a busy and varied workload
  • An independent selfstarter personality
  • Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages is strongly desirable
  • Strong computer skills particularly Microsoft Word and Excel Stata or R
