The Optometrists:
- Provides complex contact lens fittings including scleral lenses for patients of all ages
- Provides optometric examinations including but not limited to: pupillary reflexes tonometry keratometry evaluation of muscle balance stereopsis phorias vergences slit lamp examination visual acuity lensometry and indirect biomicroscopy
- Provides routine eye examinations for new and established patients as well as followup exam for established medical patients in the ophthalmology practice. Performs eye examinations and contact lens fittings to pediatric adult and geriatric patients.
- Performs triage and screening for acute or unscheduled patients in ophthalmology
- Prescribes ophthalmic medications within the scope of practice
- Complies with all Ambulatory Services and Medical Center policies and procedures for infection control safety administrative and clinical practice. Complies with activities mandated by JCAHO and DHS
- Participates in communicating the specific needs of patients to care providers
- Ensures a professional and helpful working environment by upholding the House Standards as adopted by the Medical center Staff
- Demonstrates courtesy common sense and followthrough in all telephone communications
- Orders and maintains contact lens fitting stock and supplies
- Keeps informed of current trends and developments within optometry
- Works within the ophthalmology clinics to provide support as needed
- Adheres to the Medical Center and Departmental guidelines related to documentation of patient encounter notes charge documents and diagnostic study interpretation notes
UCSF Medical Center requires all Advanced Health Professionals (AHP) to be credentialed through its Medical Staff Services Office (MSSO) in order to practice and function in their clinical role. This applies to both adult and pediatric AHPs in the inpatient and outpatient clinical settings at all UCSF Medical Center sites (Parnassus Mt. Zion Satellite Clinics et al.. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 6090 days and must be completed prior to the first working day.
