The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection AuthorityEast (SLFPAE) operates the regional flood control system and associated facilities in St. Bernard Parish the eastbank of Orleans Parish and the eastbank of Jefferson Parish within its control to protect lives and property from tidal flooding by natural weather events. The Maintenance Repairer2 is responsible for maintaining the levee system levee structures floodgates and floodwalls. All work must conform to Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection AuthorityEast (SLFPAE) policies and procedures including accepted safety practices. The incumbent may receive job assignments and specific instructions from a foreman leader or other supervisor or agency official of a higher classification. The position performs at the experienced level. Tasks may be performed at OLD headquarters or onsite within Orleans East Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades building maintenance maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
Completion of a twoyear vocational technical program in general building construction construction technology or engineering; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management construction technology or engineering or any combination of these courses.Job Concepts

To repair and maintain buildings facilities navigational locks equipment and appliances or to perform general maintenance functions on marine vessels and other related facilities.

General from higherlevel agency personnel.

Job Distinctions:
Differs from Maintenance Repairer 1 because of the expanded scope of journeyman repair work which includes installation of plumbing and electrical fixtures equipment repairs and repairs to marine vessels.
Differs from other maintenance jobs by the broad spectrum of trades functions and by the absence of specialized tasks.Examples of Work
Duties include but are not limited to the following: 55 Ensure the operational ability of each floodgate and floodwall. Cleans abrasive blasts pressure washes ses and brushes (both power and hand) steel and concrete surfaces in preparation for painting or sealing. Mixes paint and sealants and apply paints and other preservatives to surfaces using sprayers rollers pumps and brushes. Erects and dismantles scaffolding and safety nets. Inspects for painting needs; keeps appropriate records of materials used and time worked. 20 Operates various equipment such as winch truck hydroblaster air compressor extrusion pump stake body truck abrasive blaster abrasive pot pressure washer forklift and bucket truck as required to support painting operations. May be responsible for levee repair work including signage replacement ramp improvements and other duties that are assigned to the special projects crew. 1 0 Performs drywall repairs needed at any of the SLFPAE facilities within Orleans East Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes. Repairs include installation taping and floating drywall. 5 Assists in cleaning and maintenance of equipment including trucks air compressors abrasive blasters spray equipment pressure washers and other tools to enhance service life and promote safe operation. 5 Perform general repairs to SLFPAE facilities including but not limited to plumbing carpentry electrical flooring mechanical painting and other related fields. 5 Performs all duties as assigned by supervisor. Participates in required training. NOTE: The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection AuthorityEast (SLFPAE) is an emergencyoriented agency. Part of the SLFPAEs mission is to protect the residents of the east bank of Jefferson Parish St. Bernard Parish and the east bank of Orleans Parish from tidal surge winddriven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/Tropical storm events the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required remaining on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
