Position Description:
- The English as a Second Language (ESL) Coach is responsible for serving as a resource to core content teachers by building their capacity and understanding of instructional practices pertinent to English language learners or English learners through data driven instruction.
- ESL coaches work collaboratively with core content teachers promoting reflection providing guidance and structure where needed and focusing on strengths collaboration and common issues of concern.
- ESL coaches are responsible for ensuring highquality instruction in classrooms through modeling coplanning coteaching and providing feedback to teachers.
Scope of Responsibility:
- Plan jointly with the content/core teacher lessons in classrooms on a daily/weekly basis.
- Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the process of second language acquisition and factors that positively influence students learning.
- Assist teachers with resources materials tools information etc. to support classroom instruction and planning including new resources conducive to improving the academic achievement of English learners.
- Assist teachers with planning and pacing of lessons the development of differentiated lessons and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their English learner students.
- Support content teachers with their general instructional practices during planning times by sharing different instructional strategies/processes that are conducive to English learners. Build strong relationships with teachers administrators and other coaches.
- Provide direction and coordination for how curriculum is taught consistent with district/school initiatives and recognized best instructional practices.
- Create an articulated schedule with school leaders.
- Assist teachers in understanding school mission and core values.
- Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction on all levels.
- Observe lessons in a nonevaluative manner and provide feedback for teachers professional growth and students success.
- Develop coaching plans for teachers to ensure student improvement.
- Use Adult Learning Theory to motivate adult learners and improve professional practice.
- Contribute to the development systems and structures to improve teacher practice within schools.
- Provide jobembedded informal professional learning beyond the coaching responsibility.
- Submit a weekly coaching log and any pertinent data requests/coaching documentation.
- Attend required training sessions.
- Perform other duties or services as required.
Skills and Qualifications:

- Certification in ESL or bilingual education areas.
- Minimum of 5 (s) years teaching experience.

- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills including giving and receiving constructive feedback.
- Proven ability in using studentlevel data to guide instructional decisions.
- Strong pedagogical knowledge and content expertise.

- Proven ability to model continual improvement demonstrate lifelong learning and apply new learning to help all students achieve success.
- Aptitude for professional growth including leadership and participation in a wide range of significant professional development activities.
- Successful and documentable experience that impacted student achievement at the elementary or secondary school level.
- High degree of professionalism with the ability to manage multiple competing priorities while consistently demonstrating sound judgment and disciplined thinking.

- Experience with curriculum instruction and assessment development on the district state or national level
Physical Involvement:
- Sitting is required most of each work day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Standing walking reaching bending lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to schools work locations and meeting sites.
- Mobility skills necessary to access a variety of work locations including locations not on the ground floor.
