HR Technician I

Join the Human Resources team at the Colorado Springs Police Department and find meaningful work in public service. We are filling positions in three different but equally important units: the Recruiting and Advancement Unit the Employee Services Unit and the Court Liaison Unit.

As an HR Technician I you will:

Recruiting and Advancement Unit: Support the Colorado Springs Police Department in the unit responsible for managing the application testing and hiring processes for all civilian and sworn positions. In this position you will:
  • Review transcripts to determine if a candidate meets minimum qualifications.
  • Provide administrative support to the Recruiting and Advancement Unit.
  • Assist with civilian and sworn hiring by monitoring the administrative tasks throughout the hiring process and facilitating for hiring managers as well as regular communication with applicants
  • Review military documents (DD214 for veterans preference eligibility.
  • Maintain and archive files.
  • Assist with police recruit applicant testing process and the Physical Readiness Test (PRT).
  • Prepare and process routine Personnel Action Forms for new hires
  • Complete the new hire process and disseminate new hire information to all City departments to ensure that the new employee is established in all applicable systems and has all necessary access on their first day.
  • Scan/file documents into background files and software and onboarding/personnel files.


Employee Services Unit: Support the Colorado Springs Police Department in the Employee Services Unit handling diverse responsibilities across the employee life cycle.
  • Provide firstline high quality customer service to both internal and external customers via phone email and walkins. This includes answering the HR employee assistance phone line and email box.
  • Welcome employees on their first day and complete new hire paperwork.
  • Process various employee data items including employee name changes outside employment memos and college transcripts/degrees and VA OntheJob training certifications and Personnel Action Forms.
  • Weekly payroll processing; this includes ensuring all time is updated and approved and working with employees and supervisors to ensure employee leaves are entered and approved and reconciling errors.
  • Respond to records requests from internal and external customers including federal state and local law enforcement agencies regarding prior and current employees.
  • Gather and provide documents for CORA and CCJRA requests.
  • Track and maintain legal holds.
  • Provide support for promotion ceremonies including drafting promotional writeups with career highlights for promoted employees
  • Coordinate the Officer of the Month Awards Program and luncheons distribute Service Awards and coordinate other special awards by outside agencies.
  • Maintain personnel files.


Court Liaison Unit:Support the Colorado Springs Police Department in the Court Liaison Unit managing all courtrelated activity and appearances for employees.
  • Assist officers City Attorneys Municipal Court DA Department of Revenue and other judicial entities with regard to court activity.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from law enforcement defense and prosecuting attorneys the public and other legal/law related agencies.
  • Facilitate all daytoday operations of the court process including calloffs quicksets changes in court appearance times managing ongoing phone calls from employees and attorneys offices and maintaining a spreadsheet of working cell numbers for Unit.
  • Prepare daily court docket for proceeding cases and print daily court report by division for county and district courts.
  • Manage subpoenas utilizing the Court Notify and Workforce Management systems.
  • Process availability conflict memos for department personnel.
  • Assists in providing courtrelated training internally as well as to members of other law enforcement public safety agencies.

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in fastpaced environment
  • Experience with Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel
  • Proficiency in data entry
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures methods and equipment including computers and supporting software
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to all customers
