Job Description

Buckeye Elementary School District

POSITION TITLE: Elementary School Counselor

CLASSIFICATION: Certified

REPORTS TO: Principal

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Masters degree in related field
  • Appropriate certificate from the Arizona Department of Education.
  • Valid fingerprint clearance card.
  • Teaching experience preferred.
  • School Counseling experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated success in mediation & relationship building.
  • Qualified to administer individual IQ tests.

JOB GOAL: To assist the Districts students in overcoming problems that impede learning and to assist students in making educational occupational and life plans.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Supporting the overall districts educational program through general consultation activities and committee work.
  2. Initiate and implement individual and group counseling.
  3. Facilitate classroom counseling guidance programs.
  4. Convey to parents and staff regarding specific student needs in academic career and personal/social areas.
  5. Provide students parents and staff with prevention and intervention programs in career awareness behavior management effective decision making and goal setting etc. and facilitate parent groups newsletters etc.
  6. Maintain records of counseling services and consulting contacts.
  7. Assist in identification and evaluation of children with special needs.
  8. Assist the staff and parents with the interpretation of evaluative data and other student records.
  9. Cooperate with outside agencies and other Special Needs services within the district.
  10. Maintain daily and Medicaid logs and time study.
  11. Register with Medicaid as a provider.
  12. Adhere to the highest ethical and professional standards as outlined by ASCA.
  13. Maintain accurate records for compliance with district federal and state guidelines.
  14. Follow state law and district policy with cases involving child abuse and neglect.
  15. Provide ongoing consultation and support to teachers and teams in the development design and implementation of Functional Behavioral Assessments and Positive Behavior Intervention Plans for students experiencing difficulties.
  16. Participate in the District Crisis Team as needed.
  17. May be required to participate in studentss meetings which occur beyond the staffs work assignment schedule.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
