Principal Engineer

The Principal Software Engineer of Digital Engineering is a key leadership role at CAVA and will be responsible for driving and guiding the software architecture for our digital platform. This role also requires a combination of technical expertise strategic thinking and effective communication to ensure the successful design and implementation of software solutions that align with business goals.


What Youll Do:

  • Design and develop software applications systems or features based on project requirements
  • Collaborate with crossfunctional scrum team to understand project goals and deliver highquality software solutions
  • Troubleshoot issues in software identifying and fixing bugs or performance bottlenecks
  • Implement software design patterns and best practices to ensure code quality and scalability
  • Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers to maintain codebase quality
  • Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies apply them to improve software development processes
  • Document code architecture and technical specifications for reference and future maintenance
  • Test software components and systems including unit testing integration testing system testing and endtoend testing
  • Optimize and refactor code for performance improvements to ensure efficiency responsiveness and codebase maintainability
  • Provide technical support and assistance to resolve issues reported by endusers
  • Maintain version control using tools like Git to track changes in the codebase
  • Ensure security and data protection measures are implemented within software applications
  • Adhere to coding standards and follow software development best practices
  • Contribute to the entire software development lifecycle from initial concept and design to deployment and ongoing maintenance
  • Abide by policies and procedures that support the service mindset
  • Manage timeline expectations within and across teams deliver on our responsibilities accordingly
  • Earn the trust of Team Members and Managers by consistently embracing CAVAs values
  • Show discipline in bringing consistent performance communication and attitude to the job every day
  • Actively contribute to your department in order to complete tasks and meet company goals
  • Recognize the emotional stake each Team Member has in personal and organizational success of this business
  • Work closely with stakeholders to understand business drivers and capabilities and translate them into a technical design that can be implemented by cross functional development teams.
  • Involved in selection of appropriate technologies tools and frameworks that align with the organizations current and future goals and capabilities.
  • Identify organizational impact and financial impact of new solutions.
  • Design scalable solutions that can integrate with existing systems or thirdparty services ensuring seamless data flow and interoperability.
  • Ensuring that the software solution can scale to meet growing demands and optimizing performance are crucial aspects of the architects role.
  • Responsible for incorporating security measures into architectural designs to protect against potential threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Provide guidance to development teams review code and ensure that it aligns with the architectural design.
  • Creating and maintaining software architecture documentation including diagrams specifications and guidelines for development teams.
  • Effectively communicate complex technical concepts to nontechnical stakeholders and collaborate with crossfunctional teams.
  • Involved in resolving complex technical issues and challenges that may arise during the development process.
  • Staying up to date with the latest technologies competitors and industry trends is essential for a Software Solution Architect to make informed decisions. Lead teams to accomplish priorities and initiatives with the impact for the guest in mind
  • Effectively communicate goals priorities and action items to direct reports; actively give feedback on progress updates
  • Conduct impactful and meaningful DE&I conversations within team and organization
  • Create opportunities for Team Members to grow in their roles and progress into higher roles in the organization
  • Execute effective decisionmaking skills to led team to succeed
  • Maintain emotional stability in stressful situations; lead by example for how our team should handle adversity


The Qualifications Lead Engineer

  • Minimum of 7 years of working experience in software engineering implementing digital solutions.
  • 5 years Typescript experience
  • 5 years React or NextJS Experience
  • Experience with React Native and significant experience working across the tech stack specifically Javascript React NextJS and React Native
  • Expertise in building authenticated consumer applications integrating a thirdparty authentication provider across client and distrubited backend systems
  • Demonstrated proficiency with designing well architectured frontend software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality
  • Ability to decompose functional requirements into welldefined tasks while balancing quality quantity and complexity in work output
  • Have excellent communication skills and be a mentor and role model to less experienced developers
  • Experience leading both teams and technology initiatives required
  • Must have passion for leading and orchestrating frontend development work
  • Work independently be selfmotivated and be engaged.
  • Communicate effectively both technically and generally.
  • Show strong analytical problem solving and decisionmaking skills
  • Occasional Travel Required


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain stationary position to be able to operate a computer and other office equipment
  • Must be able to identify analyze and assess details
  • For certain positions must be able to occasionally move or transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to communicate with others and exchange information accurately and effectively
  • Constantly positions self and move about to support ordinary restaurant or food production support or office operations as applicable
  • Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner
