The school nurse oversees the physical social emotional and mental health of students. She/he must possess a wide range of skills knowledge and experience to fill this position efficiently. This includes having excellent organizational skills and flexibility is necessary to meet the demands of students with a variety of needs. She/he must be able to offer high calibre reliable counsel and knowledge in best practice nursing.
She/he ought to be able to use resources effectively to raise the requirements for nutrition safety and general health and wellness for all students and employees. She/he should possess enough pedagogical knowledge and abilities to contribute to the development of an effective and healthy learning environment
Requirements
Qualifications and experience.
- Possess valid Qatar
Registered Nursing license
- Minimum 5 years of recent work experience
- Preferably have experience in
school nursing
- Possess valid ILS and PLS certification
Knowledge and Skills. He/she should:
- be aligned with the ISL values of belonging integrity grit and kindness
- have
training in health community care and counselling
- have experience in working with children requiring developmental health care and health education
- have an excellent command of spoken and written English (strong ability in Arabic would also be a great asset)
- be able to participate fully in the development of an expanding IB school
- be able to satisfy student needs in health matters
- be able to provide basic health education to mixed culture and ability students using a variety of styles to create appropriate learning opportunities for student where appropriate
- be familiar with Qatar policy and international developmental health requirements for children and young adults
- be familiar with current developments in school health care issues
- be able to develop rapport with students and create an atmosphere of trust and respect
- Be able to maintain confidentiality amongst students and staff cases
Responsibilities.
- To attend to the daily health needs of students and staff
- To contribute to health education lessons when needed and provide direct health education and health counselling to assist students and parents in making healthy lifestyle choices.
- Support the formation of health policies goals and objectives
- Attend accidents within school promptly give on the spot treatment and arrange follow up
- Organise regular health checks for students
- Organize annual Growth Monitoring and Vision Screenings
according to MoPH
regulations and complete the required screening documentation accurately.
- Liaise with parents regarding children s state of health
- Keep children s medical records on iSams
up to date
- Reporting of communicable diseases to Centre for Disease Control
(CDC) as per Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) policy
- Liase with MoPH and CDC in health matters as needed
- Liaise with parents and provide information regarding
childhood vaccinations
- Organise health cover for school events
- Assemble and maintain first aid kits to be kept in school and for trips
- Oversee infection control standards
- Attend workshops and trainings related to health services and nursing
- Undertake all relevant training as offered by the MoPH
- Communicate with teaching staff pastoral team members and counselors to promote a multidisciplinary approach to individual health concerns and care and to raise awareness of health issues.
- Support and plan educational health promotion sessions in line with the prevailing global health trends and awareness campaigns in Qatar
