Introduction
THIS IS A NEW ASSEMBLED EXAMINATION. The eligible list resulting from this examination willcancel any existing list and may last approximately one year but can beextended.
Supplemental Questionnaire: A properly completed Supplemental Questionnaire must besubmitted with each application. - The Behavioral Health Department provides mental health and substance use services for people with MediCal and without insurance and supports people along their path to wellness recovery and resilience.
- The Environmental Health Department works to keep our air water and food safe; it regulates protects and promotes the health of everyone in Alameda County by enforcing environmental health codes to reduce exposure to toxins and diseases.
- The Public Health Department focuses on community and populationlevel health preventing and addressing root causes of health inequity across a range of communicable and chronic diseases.

ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT
As part of Alameda County Health the Environmental Health Department protects and enhances peoples health and quality of life by ensuring food and recreational safety reducing exposure to toxins and diseases and protecting the quality of our water air and environment.
We are environmental protection specialists food and recreation facilities inspectors certified hazardous materials and waste specialists recreational water quality technicians land and water protection regulators and vector control biologists.

THE POSITION
Under general supervision to coordinate plan and develop the community and media relations programs for a small department unit; performs community outreach projects and events; and to perform related duties as required.
This position is located in smaller programs within a large County department or agency. As a liaison to community residents and the general public incumbents are responsible for developing and coordinating community relations by providing resources outreach and support services to community residents and professional staff.
This position is distinguished from the higher level position of Public Information Specialist in that the latter class is responsible for developing and coordinating a public information program for various departments or programs for a large County department or agency involving various programs whereas the Community Relations Coordinator is responsible for planning and implementing educational activities media relations and community outreach programs specific to a program or unit with major emphasis on public education and community awareness.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
In addition to the minimumqualifications and knowledge and skills listed below ideal candidates for thisposition will:
- Gather interpret and accurately present data.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Understand interpret and apply provisions of Federal State and local legislation rules and regulations relating to the program.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with department staff outside agencies the media and the general public.
- Coordinate a community relations program.
- Develop and disseminate publications and informational material.
- Develop and implement a community or public education program with major emphasis in providing educational outreach to the community.
- Know principles and practices of community education and mass communications.
- Know and use computer applications and webbased communications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
An Associate Degree from an accredited college in Business Health Education Behavioral Science Communications Public Relations or a related field. (Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year for year basis).
AND
Experience:
Three years of fulltime experience in community or public relations which includes: developing and implementing a community or public education program with major emphasis in providing educational outreach to the community.
NOTE: The Civil Service Commission may modify the above Minimum Qualifications in the announcement of an examination.

Knowledge of:
Principles and practices of community education and mass communications.
Media relations and community outreach.
Public information dissemination.
Webbased communications.
Computer applications.
Ability to:

EXAMINATION COMPONENTS
The examination will consist of the following steps:
1 A review of candidates applications to verify possession of minimumrequirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for theclassification will move on to the next step in the examination process.
2 A review of candidates Supplemental Questionnaires to select the bestqualified applicants. Those candidates selected as best qualified will move onto the next step in the examination process.
3 An oral interview examination which will be weighted as 100 of thecandidates final examination score. The oral interview examination may containsituational exercises.
CANDIDATES MUST ATTAIN A QUALIFYING RATING ON EACHPORTION OF THIS EXAMINATION.
