The Department of Broadcast Media Studies and Journalism Digital Media Faculty of Business Communication Studies and Aviation at Mount Royal University invites applications for the following parttime sessional appointments in Fall 2025 which will commence 2 September and end on 22 December 2025.

JOUR 1727 Digital Storytelling I
Lecture Hour(s): 3

Course Description: This course introduces students to key practices in audio storytelling and podcasting in journalism. Students learn the basics of planning scripting sound recording and audio editing while also developing a critical understanding of key aspects in the production of audiobased journalism.

Qualifications

Masters degree min. in Journalism or adjacent fields.
Capacity to work cooperatively across multiple sections of a course.
Experience having taught at an undergraduate level within Journalism or adjacent fields for a min. of 1 semester.
Coursespecific experience required:

Ability to teach introductory audioproduction recording and editing using Adobe Audition.
Ability to teach basic photography composition using smartphones.
Ability to teach broadcaststyle writing.
Experience preferred:

Min. 3 years of journalismrelated experience.

JOUR 3747 Visual Journalism II
Lecture Hour(s): 3

Course Description: Working as online contributors visual journalists in this course will collaborate with senior student editors to produce increasingly sophisticated video photography and multimedia stories for the programs online news sites. Best practices for integrating photography video and multimedia content in the evolving online journalism landscape will also be explored.

Experience having taught at an undergraduate level within Journalism or adjacent fields for a min. of 1 semester.

Ability to teach intermediate equipment and production such as Adobe Premiere Pro video camera operations lighting audio recording editing and Speedlight / Flash Photography.

Experience preferred:

Journalism audio and video editorial experience.

Responsibilities for all positions

Instruction: course delivery including preparation of course outlines other course materials course activities lesson preparation and assessments and course learning management systems.

The Faculty of Business Communication Studies & Aviation comprises the Bissett School of Business the School of Communication Studies and the Aviation Program. The Bissett School of Business offers a fouryear Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree with majors in accounting human resources general management (with concentrations in innovation and entrepreneurship social innovation). Students in the Bissett School of Business can take a fouryear Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree. The Aviation Program is housed in the Department of International Business Supply Chain and Aviation and offers a twoyear Aviation Diploma and the newly launched fouryear Bachelor of Aviation Management. Students in the School of Communications Studies take a fouryear Bachelor of Communication Studies (BComms) and can pursue majors in Broadcast Media Studies Information Design Journalism and Public addition to the two degrees and their majors students are offered a variety of minors concentrations and certificates to complement their major.
