Job Description

CYBR 442: Software Security (Extended Learning)

  • Position:Instructional Faculty Special Programs -For Credit
  • Semester: Fall 2025
  • Day/Time: Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.
  • Modality: Online synchronous
  • College: College of Science Technology Engineering & Mathematics
  • Department: Computer Science and Engineering BS Cyber through Extended Learning

The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at California State University San Marcos seeks a part-time lecturer for the Bachelor of Cybersecurity program to teach CYBR 442: Software Security. This 16-week course will be taught online-synchronously from August 25th to December 5th on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m.

Course Description:

Teaches the fundamental concepts and design techniques for improving software security. Examines common software vulnerabilities secure design and coding principles software security standards and tools secure testing and secure software development lifecycle. Analyzesspecific software security topics including reverse engineering vulnerability discovery patching and hardening exploit generation etc. Providesfuture security engineers with the skillsto develop secure software by applying software secure design principles tools and techniques.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree and experience teaching or equivalent practical experience in Cybersecurity using a variety of technologies and tools
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Course Design (can design a well-structured syllabus and select appropriate course materials)
  • Continuous Learning and Adaptability (commitment to staying update with latest techniques and developments).
  • Per the California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A masters degree in a related field and/or equivalent industry experience
  • Experience teaching either as a course instructor or teaching assistant especially in topics related to Cybersecurityor mentoring students/employees in topics related to tools and technologies used in Cybersecurity.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • Anticipated Hiring Salary: $2279 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
  • CSU Classification Salary: $2279 per Weighted Teaching Unit (WTU)
