RadioCanada ColombieBritannique/Alberta/Grand Nord is looking for a reporter/editor assigned as a digital editor.
This is a one year temporary position than can be based in Edmonton or Calgary.
Your role will focus primarily on pitching and executing ideas and concepts to promote the digital content under your responsibility. You will be involved in planning digital projects as well as augmenting the stations content and special projects.
As digital editor you will also be occasionally responsible for gathering writing and creating content mainly for the web radio and all digital platforms.
You will write headlines and short copy adapt general programming content and update CBC/RadioCanada French Services websites serving Alberta the Far North and British Columbia in line with corporate standards and policies.
You will follow developments in multimedia mobile media and other related fields and assist with short and mediumterm planning for upcoming publications. You will share your projects deployment plans with teams across the country and ensure maximum exposure for crossplatform productions.
You will support the Vidojournal newscast teams and help develop new formats and special projects for digital platforms and radio.
Work is governed by CBC/RadioCanadas journalistic and programming policies practices and standards.
Advice and guidance are regularly available but there is latitude for initiative and independent judgment. There may be opportunity to coordinate the work of others and close cooperation with all RadioCanada teams is essential.
A digital editors key tasks include the following:
Enhancing digital content beyond standard web copy.
Incorporating graphics maps photos and carousels.
Working with reporters to develop page layouts.
Designing layouts for largescale digital projects (e.g. Empreintes.
Augmenting radio segments.
Please note:
The schedule may include weekend early morning and evening shifts.
Excellent command of French is required (Frenchspeaking environment).
What you bring:
Bachelors degree or equivalent
Three 3 years directly related experience including proven ability in the field and knowledge of the broadcasting industry
Good knowledge of current events in the three regions
Solid command of French (working language); very good knowledge of English
Strong digital storytelling skills
Ability to select relevant items for posting online then adapt summarize and add to them as required
Strong ability to digitize format and edit audiovisual material
Ability to become proficient with social media particularly to gather information and quickly post content across all platforms
Excellent writing skills
Understanding of CBC/RadioCanada journalistic and programming policies standards and practices
Technical production skills; knowledge of audio consoles iNews and Dalet is an asset
Knowledge of Picto Scoop Canva and Datawrapper publishing tools is an asset
Ability to solve technical/operational issues
Resourcefulness initiative and creativity
Ability to work effectively under pressure to tight deadlines
Communication and interpersonal skills; excellent team player
Openness to new workflows
