Animal Technician Training OfficerJob Description
An excellent opportunity is available for an Animal Technician Training Officer to join the Bioservices department at Australias preeminent biomedical research institute.
About the Position
This position is responsible for the technical training of animal technicians and researchers at Kew and Parkville facilities. The Training Officers duties is to develop and implement training plans assess competency and ensure compliance to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) health and safety policies and facility guidelines.
The Training Officer will undertake all tasks associated with the care husbandry and maintenance of animals within the facility with the addition of overseeing staff technical training and performing competency and compliance assessments of existing staff. This position reports to the Training and Compliance Manager and acts as a mentor for the team by encouraging teamwork and modelling professional behaviour.
The Training officer will ensure research staff and students complete all compulsory inductions and training for working with live animals
Selection Criteria
Essential Knowledge and Skills:
Diploma of Animal Technology (or equivalent qualification).
Minimum of 6 years experience working with mice in a research environment.
Familiar with all relevant regulatory instruments.
Good computer literacy including Microsoft packages (Word Excel PowerPoint and database systems.
Deep understanding of mouse breeding strategies and transgenic/knockout technologies.
Proficiency in a range of techniques undertaken in a research facility.
Demonstrated capacity to work independently and provide leadership to others including mentoring on the job training motivation and performance management.
Highly developed problemsolving skills and the ability to work with others to develop innovative solutions to issues that may arise.
Desirable Knowledge and Skills:
Preferable to have previous experience in a training environment or relevant qualification in Training and Education.
Personal Qualities:
Demonstrated capacity to organise work effectively and efficiently and deliver outputs in a timely manner.
Excellent interpersonal skills with proven aptitude for communicating effectively with staff at varying levels of the organisation and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
Excellent observation skills and attention to detail.
Genuine concern for Animal welfare.
Conscientious and reliable.
Ability to act with discretion and maintain confidentiality.
Displays Institute values and embraces Institute culture.
Available to work on some rostered public holidays Institute holidays and weekends.
Terms of Appointment
This position is an ongoing role in a full time capacity. Salary is Professional Services Employee Level 6 $92 364 $99 979. Up to 17 superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
