SUMMARY: The School Social Worker provides supportive services to students and their families in overcoming barriers to learning; to promote positive working relationships among and between staff and the schools by fostering a climate conducive to open communication and productive work.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
with teachers and other staff about students life situations and home/neighborhood circumstances.
as a liaison for families to interpret their concerns to school personnel and maintains open lines of communication.
4. Provides information to facilitate the familys use of community resources for meeting housing clothing nutritional and health needs.
5. Provides shortterm crisis intervention to students staff and families.
6. Serves as a liaison to community agencies.
7. Assists with the coordination of activities and programs for homeless children.
8. Assists families in understanding their childrens educational needs and the resources available within the school.
9. Interviews parents and others to obtain social history developmental history and other background information concerning the needs of students.
10. Helps students overcome barriers to school attendance and achievement and promotes responsible behavior.
11. Participates in staff conferences related to the students behavior adjustment and academic progress.
12. Assists students and their families to explore alternative educational programs and career options.
13. Fosters collaborative educational efforts among staff by supporting the districts vision mission and goals and its commitment to shared decision making.
14.Perform such other duties and assumes such other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Superintendent/Designee.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board policy or evaluation of professional personnel.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw conclusions; ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several concrete variables
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read analyze and interpret education materials and programs; ability to write reports procedure manuals and correspondence; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers students administration and the community.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical such as probability and statistical inference; ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.
