About the Position:

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences is committed to educating students to be culturally globally socially historically and environmentally astute civically responsible alumni able to navigate an increasingly complex and interconnected world. We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the African American Studies Coordinator (Administrative Support Coordinator II). The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active energetic mind characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity openness flexibility integrity and kindness.

Under general supervision the African American Studies Coordinator provides lead administrative support and oversees the daytoday operations of the Department Institute of Black Intellectual Innovation (IBII) Faculty (Tenured Tenuretrack and Temporary parttime Lecturers) Staff and Students. The Coordinator delegates tasks to administrative support and student assistants so they can adhere to various timelines. Assists with document preparation for tenuretrack hiring. Provides support to various departmental faculty committees and assists with planning events including but not limited to Department Events Meetings IBII and Commencement. Leads and directs student employees and monitors workflow. Department timekeeper for faculty and students. Reconciles procurement cards and budget accounts. Assists in the preparation of various university and departmental annual reports. Prepares course schedules and processes temporary appointments for lecturers and graduate assistants. Serve as the Department Information Technology Coordinator and issues student permits. Make purchases with the procurement card. Other duties assigned.

Essential Qualifications

High School diploma or the equivalent and five years of progressively responsible experience in general office clerical or secretarial work or the equivalent. Comprehensive and detailed knowledge of applicable university infrastructure policies and procedures. Thorough mastery of English grammar punctuation and spelling. Expertise in using office software packages technology and systems. Ability to independently handle multiple work unit priorities and projects. Ability to independently interpret and apply policies and procedures and use judgment and discretion to act when precedents do not exist. Ability to troubleshoot most office administration problems and respond to all inquiries and requests related to work area. Ability to understand problems from a broad perspective and anticipate the impact of office administration problems and solutions on other areas. Ability to analyze operational and procedural problems and develop recommend and evaluate proposed solutions. Ability to perform business math analyze budgetary data and make accurate projections requiring some inference. Ability to effectively write and present own reports. Ability to effectively handle interpersonal interactions at all levels including highly sensitive interpersonal situations. Ability to use negotiation and persuasion skills to achieve results and expedite projects.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Preferred Qualifications

A bachelors degree from an accredited fouryear college or university with two years of Academic office setting experience.

License/Certifications

A valid California drivers license.
