Job Title: CTE Cybersecurity Teacher

CTE Pathway: Cybersecurity

Job Summary:

The Utica City School District is seeking a dynamic and knowledgeable CTE Cybersecurity Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will develop and deliver a comprehensive curriculum that combines theoretical cybersecurity principles with handson training using industrystandard tools and practices. This role is designed to prepare students for rewarding careers in cybersecurity by fostering practical skills critical thinking and problemsolving abilities in a rapidly evolving field.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Development:

  • Design update and implement a standardsaligned curriculum covering topics such as network security ethical hacking threat analysis cryptography digital forensics and risk management.
  • Integrate projectbased learning modules that simulate realworld cybersecurity scenarios enhancing students technical and analytical skills.

Instruction and Training:

  • Deliver engaging classroom instruction and labbased training sessions that leverage modern cybersecurity tools and simulation software.
  • Utilize a mix of lectures handson exercises and group projects to address diverse learning styles and reinforce critical cybersecurity concepts.

Student Assessment and Support:

  • Evaluate student progress through formative and summative assessments practical projects and cybersecurity competitions.
  • Provide individualized mentoring and support to help students meet course objectives and pursue industry certifications such as CompTIA Security Microsoft office etc.

Industry and Community Engagement:

  • Establish and maintain partnerships with local cybersecurity firms educational institutions and industry professionals to enrich the curriculum and create internship and mentorship opportunities.
  • Stay abreast of emerging trends threats and best practices in cybersecurity and incorporate them into instructional practices.

Classroom and Laboratory Management:

  • Ensure that classroom and lab environments comply with safety and security standards and maintain uptodate cybersecurity equipment and software.
  • Organize and manage cybersecurity clubs or extracurricular activities to promote student engagement and practical learning.

Qualifications:

Industry Experience:

  • A minimum of two years of handson professional experience in cybersecurity IT security or a related field with demonstrated expertise in applying industry best practices.

Education:

  • An associate or bachelors degree in cybersecurity computer science information technology or a related discipline is preferred; candidates with a high school diploma and substantial industry experience may qualify for a Transitional A Certificate.

Certification:

  • Willingness to obtain or maintain a New York State CTE teaching certification with support provided for professional development.
  • Possession of relevant industry certifications (e.g. CompTIA Security CEH Amazon Web services Cloud Practitioner is highly desirable.
  • Skills and Competencies:
  • Strong command of cybersecurity concepts technical skills and practical applications.
  • Excellent communication classroom management and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and motivate students.
  • Proficiency with modern cybersecurity tools simulation software and digital learning platforms.

Preferred Experience:

  • Prior teaching or training experience particularly within a CTE setting is an asset.
  • Experience in developing industry partnerships and integrating realworld cybersecurity challenges into the curriculum.

About the Utica City School District:

The Utica City School District serves a community of approximately 64500 city residents in an urban and multi cultural environment with a current enrollment of roughly 9644 students in its 13 schools Proctor High School Donovan Middle School JFK Middle School and 10 elementary schools. The Districts greatest asset is its diversity with more than 50 languages spoken and 16 of students being English language learners.

Elementary The Districts elementary schools integrate a vibrant curriculum across all grade levels and subject areas aligning with the New York State Learning Standards. The District is also investing in the realignment of math goals instruction and curriculum to focus on researchbased best practices in mathematics that are proven to increase student performance outcomes. In all subject areas there is an understanding that developing foundational skills will support students in bridging gaps in learning. Middle School The focus at the Districts middle schools is to ensure that students are provided with equitable opportunities to successfully transition from elementary to high school. Both middle schools offer opportunities for students to succeed at every learning level with dedicated classes for English Language Learners and students with disabilities as well as honors/advanced studies. The Family and Career Sciences and Technology programs have incorporated science technology engineering and math topics into each curriculum to help prepare students for the Career and Technical Education opportunities available at the high school.

High School Proctor High School provides numerous avenues for students to achieve the Districts vision. This is accomplished through supportive and adaptive special education and English language learner programming a robust honors and Advanced Placement curriculum and partnerships with postsecondary institutions including Mohawk Valley Community College and Syracuse Universitys Project Advance. The District most recently embarked upon a groundbreaking initiative working with community and business partners to create innovative Career and Technical Education programming for its high school students. Proctors Naval Junior Reserve Officers Training Corp (NJROTC) music art and drama programs along with numerous extracurricular activities and athletics offer additional avenues to showcase students talents and interests and support them throughout their school experience.

$45011$95002 (with a Masters Degree)

Teachers are afforded the opportunity to earn above base salary if they choose to participate in
