VDOTs Bristol District is excited to announce a vacancy for the Maintenance Supervisor position in the Abingdon Residency Maintenance Department at the Marion Area Headquarters and Chilhowie Area Headquarters. In this role you will oversee and execute a variety of roadway maintenance activities ranging from simple to complex. You will lead a crew providing technical guidance and support as they perform maintenance tasks and operate equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

Skilled in the use of computers and software applications.

Valid drivers license.

Skilled in operating and maintaining light to heavy duty trucks and equipment.

Ability to perform manual labor.

Ability to direct evaluate and train others.

Safety shoes required.

Considerable knowledge of roadway maintenance and construction practices and procedures.

Ability to obtain valid CDL and DOT medical card within 11 months of employment and maintain thereafter. Must comply with DOT and VDOT policies and standards when operating CDL equipment.

Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications thereafter.

Knowledge of inventory practices and procedures.

Additional Considerations

A combination of training experience or education in Management Maintenance Construction or related field desired.

DCR Erosion and Sediment Control certification.

Experience supervising others and evaluating performance.

Experience planning schedules and assigning manpower.

Ability to gather data conduct research and create reports.

Experience overseeing emergency operations activities including snow removal storm damage and accident cleanup.

Inventory management experience.

Experience in roadway maintenance and or construction activities.
