Job Description

Lead Surgery Coordinator

FullTime Fishers IN Humane Society for Hamilton County

Your Impact

In this leadership role youll serve as the right hand to our Shelter Veterinariansupporting all aspects of animal surgery while coordinating the care scheduling and communication necessary to ensure lifesaving outcomes. This is both a handson clinical and strategic operations role.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading preop intraop and postop care for shelter animals
  • Developing the weekly surgery schedule and prioritizing spay/neuter needs
  • Coordinating across departments to expedite procedures for adopted or fostered pets
  • Assisting with specialty cases and outsourced veterinary care
  • Documenting surgical and postop care plans in PetPoint
  • Communicating postop instructions to adopters and internal teams
  • Overseeing surgery room prep equipment maintenance and DEA compliance
  • Guiding medical staff during surgery support roles
  • Participating in holiday and afterhours emergency rotations

What You Bring

Required Experience:

  • Veterinary background with surgery support (e.g. intubation IVs anesthesia wound care)
  • Strong animal handling skills especially with fearful or reactive animals
  • Experience managing treatment plans for common shelter illnesses
  • Proficient in PetPoint Microsoft Office and medical documentation systems
  • Able to lift 50 lbs and stay on your feet for extended periods

Preferred:

  • RVT certification (not required but valued)

Soft Skills & Leadership:

  • Meticulous attention to detail and surgical precision
  • Strong communicator and team leader
  • Calm under pressure adaptable in fastpaced highemotion environments
  • Deep alignment with nokill values and humane care standards
