About Harris County Flood Control District:
The Flood Control District has the mission to reduce the risk of flooding in Harris County the third most populated county in the United States with a population in excess of 4.7 million including the City of Houston the nations fourth largest city. The Flood Control District has jurisdiction over the primary stormwater facilities in the county which consist of approximately 1500 channels totaling nearly 2500 miles in length as well as more than 60 regional stormwater detention basins totaling more than 10000 acres and several wetlands mitigation banks including Greens bayou.What you will do atHarris County Flood Control District:
Harris County Flood Control District is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Equipment Operator III.
Reporting to the Crew Leader the Equipment Operator III is responsible for operating a variety of heavy (large) midsized and small equipment engines attachments and hand tools used to maintain the Countys channels and bayous.
Essential Functions and Duties:- Operate heavy and/or technical equipment such as large trash truck airboats skid steer etc.
- Record work performed on daily activity sheet track mileage and complete herbicide reports.
- Perform job hazard assessments identify any obstacles to completing tasks and report to supervisor.
- Assist in the supervision of crew members when needed.
- Mix herbicide(s) in accordance with manufacturers label and dispense from truck tractor or 4wheel drive extreme utility vehicles (XUV).
- Dislodge and remove drifts and debris from channels basin and vacant lots.
- May perform other duties that can be added or changed as the course and scope of the job directs.

Requirements
- Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Education:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent
Experience:
- Two 2 years of directly related work experience
Licensure:
- Valid Class B CDL Texas drivers license with tank standard shift endorsements or TDA herbicide license.
- Good verbal & written communication skills. Can effectively communicate with coworkers and the public.
- Good analytical skills in applying guidelines and adapting standard methods to fit facts and conditions.
- Good diagnostic and troubleshooting skills.
- Can read and comprehend written materials e.g. policies procedures operating instructions and safety notices.
- Ability to work in an outdoor setting.
- Familiarity with operating gasoline powered equipment and offroad vehicles.
- Ability to work well with a team in a field environment.
- Can work independently with limited to no supervision.
