Join an enthusiastic talented team of LCRA scientists protecting water resources in the Texas Colorado River basin! The Aquatic Science Team is looking for a scientist or engineer with experience in water quality modeling. This position will also coordinate LCRAs realtime water quality monitoring program. Our team works to monitor protect research and enhance water quality and aquatic resources in the lower Colorado River its reservoirs and tributaries. This role is suited for those who enjoy and are skilled at working with scientific data and models learning collaboratively with others effective communication and finding sciencebased solutions for complex problems. You will have the opportunity to travel throughout the Colorado River watershed to help monitor and assess the water quality of this beautiful region and to work with internal and external colleagues to accomplish water quality protection goals. You will be trusted to:
Develop maintain improve and run water quality models for pollutant loading from watersheds as well as pollutant movement and transformations in rivers lakes bays and estuaries.
Develop implement and maintain the LCRA realtime water quality monitoring network.
Develop implement and maintain stormwater sampling network.
Serves as water quality modeling expert both internally and in collaboration with external colleagues as needed.
Strategize with LCRA Water Quality Protection and Environmental Laboratory Services colleagues on water quality data collection needs related to research and modeling.
Coordinate with LCRA Hydromet River Operations Center and Digital Services colleagues on equipment and data needs for water quality and hydrologic data installation collection and display.
You qualify with:
Nine or more years of experience in water quality analysis planning protection environmental program administration environmental compliance or other relevant experience. A degree(s) in science engineering or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
Drivers license
You are a great fit with:
Expertise in water quality and surface water modeling
Indepth understanding of surface water hydraulic processes and principles
Knowledge of the research specification and purchasing of materials equipment and systems
GIS experience
R programming experience
CAD experience
Ability to articulate complex technical information to both technical and nontechnical audiences
Ability to occasionally lift 30 lbs and work in a variety of weather conditions
