Job Summary
Job Summary Our laboratory investigates the biology and targeted therapy of myeloid blood cancers particularly myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) and acute myeloid leukemia AML . Under minimal supervision the successful applicant will be responsible for planning organizing directing and/or controlling all aspects pertaining to laboratory functions enforcing laboratory rules and regulations managing laboratory finances inventory equipment maintenance and personnel. We are looking for highly enthusiastic selfmotivated individuals with a strong work ethic who can interact well with others as part of a team. Responsibilities
Essential Functions 1. Forecasts develops and implements policies and procedures in the areas of daytoday laboratory function laboratory staffing and laboratory budgetary goals and objectives that are consistent with the labs and University of Utahs policies. 2. Enforces laboratory rules and regulations 3. Manages laboratory finances 4. Manages laboratory inventory 5. Maintains laboratory equipment 6. Places orders for the lab obtains quotes engages with customer service and sales reps 7. Facilitates cooperative and collaborative community and institutional relationships. 8. Ensures customer satisfaction by analyzing complaints concerns and suggestions and providing appropriate followthrough. 9. Ensures competency of staff through the development and/or presentation of educational programs and through ongoing staff performance evaluations. Problem Solving This position includes supervision of laboratory personnel who may refer sensitive or unusual situations to the incumbent and/or the lab technician. If incumbent and/or lab technician cannot find a resolution the situation is referred to the supervisor. Work is performed in accordance with the supervision of senior laboratory personnel and through periodic meetings with superior. Minimum Qualifications
Requires a Bachelors degree in a related area of assignment or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) and 4 6 years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of assigned departments area of specialization in order to analyze plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Masters degree in a related area may be preferred. Applicants must demonstrate the potential ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined in the position description.
