This is aDepartment Promotional Examinationand is open to eligible employees oftheKern County Sheriffs Officewho have successfully completed their initial probationary period and received an overall rating of standard or better on the last employee performance report.
Examination Schedule:
Appraisal 100: Will be conducted for the purpose of evaluating the applicants training education experience interest and personal fitness for the position. Appraisal can be based on any of the following: investigation oral examination and/or review of application.
Applicants must attain at least a 70 score on each phase of the examination process.
Minimum Qualifications/ Employment Standards:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelors degree in computer science or management information systems AND four 4 years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes systems analysis and design systems support management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) for a department or organization.
OR
Completion of sixty 60 semester or ninety 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university with course work in computer science or management information systems AND six 6 years experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques including systems analysis and design systems support management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) for a department or organization.
OR
Completion of an accredited technical or vocational training programin computer science computer office automation technology computer systems technology or a closely related field AND six 6 years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes systems analysis and design systems support management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) for a department or organization.
OR
Two 2 years of experience as a Local Area Network Systems Administrator in the Kern County classification system.
OR
Eight 8 years of experience in the utilization of networking principles and techniques which includes systems analysis and design systems support management and/or coordination of an integrated system of local area networks (LANs) and wide area networks (WANs) for a department or organization.
Experience must include work with network operating systems routers Web Servers Firewalls OSI Model TCP/IP IPX/SPX DHCP NAT and Gateways. Experience with UNIX is desirable. Possession of vendor specific certification such as Novell Certified Netware Engineer (CNE) or Microsoft (MCSE) Certificate is desirable.
Qualifying experience must have been within the last eight 8 years.
Additional Requirements:
A valid California Class C Drivers license is required at the time of appointment.

Admittance to the examination will require a valid government issued photograph identification. Applicants who are unable to present proper identification must make arrangements with the Human Resources Division prior to the test date.
A background check may be conducted for this classification.
Following an offer of employment you may be required to submit to post offer medical and drug screening tests at County expense.
This position works in various departments throughout Kern County.
This examination will establish an eligible list from which immediate appointment(s) will be made to the Kern County Sheriffs Office. Other permanent and temporary appointments will be made as needed. Successful candidates will remain on the eligible list for a period of twelvemonths unless specified otherwise by the Civil Service Commission.
