Job Description

Position Summary
The IU Indianapolis University Library seeks an experienced librarian to join the administrative team as the Associate Dean for Scholarly Communication and Content Strategies. IU Indianapolis University Library embraces and leads change in scholarly communication while supporting the information and research materials needs of an R1 campuss students researchers instructors and community through an on demand point of need access model. Using assessment vendor negotiation strategies data inquiry of user and campus needs investigation of technological and service trends/innovations and considering national library service best practices and the library budget the Associate Dean for Scholarly Communication and Content Strategies strategically develops and maintains in collaboration with other library and campus units the librarys scholarly communication program and content provision and preservation strategies. This Associate Dean will be responsible for developing the librarys strategic plan for compliance with Federal web accessibility standards in collaboration with the universitys legal and technology divisions. This position includes three direct reports and a total of twentysix fulltime personnel working in the following units: Center for Digital Scholarship Resource Acquisition and Description Resource Sharing and Delivery Services Ruth Lilly Special Collections and Archives and Herron Art Library. This is a tenuretrack position with an anticipated start date of July 1 2025. Responsibilities Encourage a collegial environment one in which all members feel valued that they have a stake in the endeavor that they are part of a team and that they have ownership in the Librarys goals. Provide leadership strategic vision and overall management of University Librarys scholarly content collection activities and initiatives using evidencebased methodologies for acquiring and managing scholarly artistic/creative archival and cultural heritage content. Mentor and support individuals you supervise in achieving their performance goals. Supervised individuals include: Director of the Center for Digital Scholarship Director of Content Services Director of Distinctive Collections Evaluate and recommend action regarding the librarys participation in collaborative and consortial scholarly communication and collectionsrelated programs including the acquisition of or access to research and teaching materials that support the teaching learning and research missions of IU Indianapolis. Support the Director of the Center for Digital Scholarship in overseeing the management and development of the Librarys data management institutional repository open publishing and research impact metrics programs. Coordinate with the Librarys Operations Team in supporting the technical infrastructure and platforms allowing for effective use of library systems services and programs. Support content provision strategies that prioritize sustainability and open access. IU Indianapolis students prioritizing open access as a content provision strategy for accessing scholarly content. Encourage and support the creation digitization and preservation of scholarly historical and cultural content including content reflecting the Indianapolis community. Along with the Dean and other library leadership represent the library on campus and externally in relevant collaborative and consortial venues developing collective strategies for multiinstitutional programs that address current scholarly communication and collection development and management issues including but not limited to the IU Libraries Council of Head Librarians IU Indianapolis Council of Associate Deans for Research and Office of Research and SPARC . As a member of the senior leadership team contribute to strategic fiscal and overall management of the library. Compensation and Application The minimum salary for this position is $90000 comprised of a set annual compensation rate based on librarian rank and an administrative component commensurate with the management responsibilities of the role with additional funding for professional development and travel. Benefits include 22 vacation days 10 paid holidays health/dental insurance options and retirement contributions of 10 to a Fidelity Investments retirement plan.
