Job Description

JOB INFORMATION

Chemeketa seeks a studentfocused successoriented individual to join the Student Computer Center (SCC) team. Team members provide technology tutoring and support for students and general technology assistance for library patrons. As an Instructional Technology Specialist you will promote Student Computer Center by participating in class visits and other marketing activities; engage in department and college efforts to increase student success and retention. You will also work closely with faculty in several program areas at the college including but not limited to Accounting Business Technology and Computer Information Systems to support students with computer applications and coursework. This position also assists at the main circulation desk in the library print center and provides college wide WiFi support.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Computer Center Operations and Instructional Support

  • Provides general assistance WiFi and printing to computer users inperson via zoom email and phone

  • Assists Student Computer Center (SCC) Coordinator and Access Services Manager with the upkeep and promotion of the Student Computer Center in Salem and Yamhill Valley campuses through class visits orientations marketing material and partnerships with instructors

  • Monitors student facing systems to insure registration data collection and other activities are uninterrupted

  • Participates in the development and implementation of new computer procedures

  • Helps maintain security for equipment and facility

  • Manage assigned early alert cases through EAB Navigate for the Academic Support Tutoring Care Unit

  • Participates in collection of data and assessment effort

  • Assists in compiling usage reports and related statistical information

  • Serves as liaison for college programs/departments in assigned area; acts as an information resource person for instructors and students; promotes services

  • Serves on college committees and participates in interdepartmental activities

  • Assists in the creation and development of informational pamphlets handouts forms and appropriate study aids


Technology Support and Hardware Management

  • Troubleshoots tracks and resolves problems; performs preventive maintenance minor repairs researches warranty availability and general support of library devices and equipment

  • Assists with the reimaging process of laptops & Chromebooks; maintains and updates image as needed

  • Processes new equipment as needed setup testing troubleshooting

  • Helps in maintaining equipment and identifying items due for replacement and assists with surplus process

  • Assists with Library & Learning Resources equipment inventories

  • Learns new software and keeps current with existing software upgrades

  • Provides endofterm maintenance and cleaning of computer systems

  • Assists with workstation installation of software and hardware under the direction of Information Technology


Student Tutor & PTH Mentoring

  • May recruit interview and hire prospective tutors completes related paperwork

  • Trains SCC tutors in use of appropriate tutoring methods and technologies

  • Provides general supervision for student and parttime tutors observes and evaluates performance completes related paperwork (time sheets schedule etc.

  • Works with team to create schedules and update EAB Navigate

  • Enforces college and department employment procedures develops improvement plans and terminates employees as necessary


Tutoring

  • Tutors students on an individual and small group basis inperson or via Zoom

  • Assists students and instructors with various software applications using computers and media equipment

  • Promotes a positive learning environment by maintaining good rapport with students

  • Completes assigned eTutoring hours as needed


Student & Public Service

  • Staffs public service desk by providing customer service to all Library patrons (in person on the phone and via email)

  • Keeps current on departmental and collegewide policies and procedures; Provides library and college directional/informational assistance

  • Assists in the interpretation of library policies and explains rules

  • Performs circulation functions in an automated environment for library materials media software and equipment

  • Responds to complaints and inquiries; ascertains reason for problem

  • Corrects library errors; refers patron to Access Services Manager or Lead when appropriate

  • Handles financial transactions and credits accounts updating Banner holds as needed


Other Functions

  • May open/close facilities

  • Provides general college and specific departmental information advises students employees college partners and public patrons of college policy making referrals when necessary

  • Performs all other jobrelated duties as assigned

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma/General Equivalency Diploma (G.E.D.

AND

Two years of administrative or technical support experience with computer applications involving word processing spreadsheets and database programs

AND

A combination of two years of tutoring or instructional experience related to the position


OR


Associates degree in Computer Science or related field
AND

A combination of one year of tutoring or instructional experience related to the position

  • Moderate level of expertise using Microsoft Office Suite (including Excel and Word) and Google apps; Zoom and other remote meeting software; file management in a physical and electronic environment

  • Knowledge of modern office or library environments practices tools techniques principles and technologies including emerging technologies

  • Ability to troubleshoot a variety of equipment and computer related problems including laptops desktops and WiFi

  • Effective decision making with adaptability and flexibility to work with diverse and competing demands

  • Ability to work well in a team setting as well as independently; ability to work without direct supervision

  • Ability to work efficiently and accurately; understand and carry out oral and written directions; follow apply an explain instructions and/or guidelines

  • Knowledge in effective customer service principles and practices

  • Bicultural/multicultural skills sufficient to select appropriate behaviors values and attitudes within different cultures during interactions with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated expertise in technology support and troubleshooting and minor repairs

  • Demonstrated background in instructional principles

  • Oneyear library or learning center experience

  • Experience using an integrated library system

  • Experience with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) tutor certification program

  • Bilingual English/Spanish

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

SCHEDULE & MODALITY

Work schedule will vary depending on school term and may require evenings and weekend hours.

Regular remote/hybrid work is not a feature of this position. At the supervisors discretion exemptions may be made for special projects or responsibilities requiring periodic needed focus time.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • This is a 100 12month classified assignment of the B3 band and grade
  • Please note:The college is currently undertaking a comprehensive classification and compensation study. No employee will lose base pay because of this study however classification titles and pay grades may change. The successful candidate will receive notice of all changes prior to implementation which is currently projected for the Summer of 2025.
  • This position has a 6month probationary period
  • All positions at Chemeketa are required to be available for work onsite as requested by the college.
  • Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs which may include evenings and/or weekends
  • This position may require the use of your personal vehicle for transportation between campus locations
  • If requested requires the provision of official transcripts upon hire
  • Employees must maintain Oregon Washington or Idaho residency as a condition of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work:Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift carry push pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary requirements are met.

PUBLIC SERVICE LOAN FORGIVENESS

Chemeketa Community College is considered a qualifying public employer for the purposes of the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program. Through the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program fulltime employees working at the College may qualify for forgiveness of the remaining balance on Direct Loans after 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan.
