About the area

The Directorate of Student Life sits within the UWA Education Portfolio overseen by the Deputy ViceChancellor of Education & Student Experience. The Directorate has four core functions Student Administration Student Offices Student Equity & Success and Student Wellbeing & Engagement. The scope of services centre on the student journey from the provision of student programs and activities that support and promote access to UWA to student enrolment course planning transition and progression through the lifecycle of study to graduation. The Directorate is also responsible for the delivery of services that promote academic success and support wellbeing and engagement for an enhanced student experience. Student Life works closely with the Student Guild affiliated residential colleges and the wider UWA Education portfolio.

The Student Equity and Success teams facilitate a highquality student experience focused on access and support for students. This includes academic and cocurricular activities that enrich an inclusive student experience with a dedicated first year experience.

UWAs Disability Service provides support to students with disabilities medical or mental health conditions. The service provides confidential advice and information to registered students and assists with educational access with assistive technologies and the implementation of reasonable adjustments. The team also supports requests for alternative exam arrangements and develops and promotes resources online and on campus to support their study. The team work closely and collaboratively with the academic community and other services in Student Life to provide holistic and integrated support to students to achieve their study goals and support their wellbeing.

About the opportunity

  • You will lead daily operation of the Disability service while also contributing to the strategic management and design of accessibility support across the University.
  • Oversee service delivery and workflow management and drive continuous improvement to strengthen the Disability services capacity to deliver a highquality futurefocused service.
  • You will lead the development of new initiatives and strategies collaborating with academic and professional staff and students to enhance inclusive teaching practices and support the implementation of Universal Design for Learning and neuroaffirming practices.

About you

  • Degree in relevant Allied Health Services Occupational Therapy Nursing Rehabilitation or equivalent.
  • Extensive and relevant clinical experience closely related to working with people with disability preferably in an education setting.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing and developing complex services including team leadership and facilitating team cohesion coordinating a service and strategic planning and oversight of HR financial performance and reporting responsibilities.
  • Extensive knowledge of guiding principles and legislation relating to disability particularly as they relate to students with disability in higher education in Australia and the ability to provide strategic advice and insight and influence institutional policy and practice.
  • Proven capacity to lead crossfunctional collaboration on disabilityrelated issues that impact student success.

  • Occasional weekend work during examination periods.
  • Current Working with Children Check.
  • Current National Police Clearance Certificate.
