Position Description

Job Title: Music Teacher

FLSA: NonExempt

Job Status: PartTime

Reporting Functions: Reports to Principal


Job Function: Provides daily instruction and selects ageappropriate activities in the curriculum area of music. Evaluate and record information on each childs developmental progress and provide feedback to parents.


Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide daily instruction and select learning activities appropriate to students needs based on the music curriculum set by the Allentown Diocese.

  • Create lesson plans that are appropriate for the age and abilities of the students in the class. Teach students to understand music and the use of musical instruments.

  • Develop an environment that promotes learning and social interaction.

  • Act as a positive role model for the children.

  • Organize and direct the school chorus preparing them for Christmas concerts and talent shows.

  • Posts grades and sends grade reports to parents as required by the school system.

  • Keep informed of current educational practices through professional reading and educational opportunities; remain current with both religious and academic standards.

  • Actively establishes and maintains appropriate student supervision so that students have a safe orderly effective and productive environment established from Notre Dame of Bethlehem Schools discipline procedures.

  • Actively supervises students in hallways before after and between classes in a library in the cafeteria in bus areas and at special events ensuring safety and security.

  • Knowledge of emergency evacuation routes school procedures and regulations for the classrooms assigned.

  • Attend school preparation days inservice and staff development opportunities and Diocesan educational workshops; attend and participate in school faculty meetings open houses and other schoolrelated activities upon the request of the principal.

  • Maintains appropriate confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters including social media and online platforms. Follow all Notre Dame of Bethlehem School and Allentown Diocese policies as per the teachers handbook.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in Music or Music Education preferred.

  • PA Teacher certification preferred.

Other Requirements:

  • Must communicate effectively with parents students and coworkers in a positive and enthusiastic manner.

  • Possess an understanding of child development and the skills necessary to relate to the students being taught.

  • Possess an understanding of the supervision of employees and the communication skills necessary to relate to adult employees and volunteers in a collegial as well as effective and efficient manner.

  • Ability to handle classroom situations with fairness and patience.

  • Able to maintain a high level of energy. Ability to respond calmly to overwhelming and difficult situations.

  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality a high degree of credibility integrity and selfconfidence is essential.

PRIOR TO INTERVIEW: Clear records of Pennsylvania State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH) Pennsylvania Child Abuse History and Federal Bureau of Investigation Criminal Background Fingerprint Check as required under Commonwealth of Pennsylvanias Act 153 of 2014 (at least 1 year old. As well as attendance at a Protecting Gods Children class and Mandated Reporter Training.

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit walk and stand; talk or hear both in person and by telephone. Use of hands to operate standard office equipment; with occasional reaching and lifting to 10 pounds is required. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by the means of spoken word and singing; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken levels and singing; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work and observing general surroundings and activities.


Working Conditions: Normal classroom setting. Working days are Tuesday and Thursday between 7:15 am 3:15 pm.; Wednesday between 11:15pm to 3:15pm. May be required to assist with special duties and work outside the normal school day to attend schoolrelated events.
