Join Our Dedicated Team at Afterhours Youth Diversionary Services (Lighthouse) for Townsville Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Services (TAIHS)

Are you passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities We are currently seeking a compassionate and skilled Case Worker to join our team. In this rewarding role you will have the opportunity to support individuals and families navigate complex needs and empower our community through culturally respectful clientcentered services. Your Contribution

The Case Worker is responsible for the provision of access case management support to young people and their families. The priority group for this service includes the young people identified by Youth Justice Service Centres and police as repeat offenders. The position aims to address the risk factors that have been identified through case planning case management and the development of programs to meet the client needs. This is in collaboration with key stakeholders and services to increase young peoples participation in prosocial activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Undertake case reviews with key stakeholder and services linked to the young person and/or their family
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with clients their families key stakeholders and services to meet client needs
  • Participate in the delivery of collaborative programs both structured and unstructured aimed at meeting the needs of the individual or group
  • In accordance with agreed procedures and protocols develop and maintain effective relationships with clients whilst nurturing and supporting clients to develop the skills needed to engage in noncriminal activity
  • Regularly reviewing and updating client plans and recording actions in accordance with the contract and TAIHS requirements
  • Participating in referral meetings if required or as directed
  • Participate in conducting strengths and needs assessments
  • Ensure that dangerous objects alcohol illicit substances or potential weapons are not brought into the place of safety and that prescribed medications are stored securely
  • Provide information support and advocacy for clients
  • Provide any relevant data and information regarding service delivery as required and/or as directed
  • Maintain necessary client and operational information including logbooks and case notes daily
  • Ensure secure management of all program files and compliance with applicable privacy legislation and policies.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Qualification/s relevant to the field of Youth Work or a related field of discipline with a minimum of a Certificate IV. Eg: Certificate IV in Youth Work or Certificate IV in Community Services or Enrolled in relevant course and/or willingness to obtain qualification within an agreed timeframe
  • Previous experience in a relevant industry service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake duties and responsibilities of the role
  • Ability to operate within a case management model
  • Ability to demonstrate capabilities in building relationships with and motivating vulnerable people assessing needs and advocating for clients
  • Demonstrated understanding of the barriers and issues faced by young people
  • Demonstrated ability to provide activities and supports that genuinely interest and engage young people empowering them to make positive choices
  • Demonstrated oral communication skills and competence in use of technology and desk top applications internet word processing spreadsheets and databases
  • Hope and Healing (desirable)
