Job Description

The Drr Group is one of the worlds leading mechanical and plant engineering firms. Products systems and services offered by Drr enable highly efficient manufacturing processes in different industries. Business with automobile manufacturers and their suppliers accounts for approximately 60 of Drrs sales. Other market segments include for example the mechanical engineering chemical and pharmaceutical industries and the woodworking industry. The Drr Group operates in the market with five divisions:


  • Paint and Final Assembly Systems: paint shops and final assembly systems for the automotive industry
  • Application Technology: robot technologies for the automatic application of paint as well as sealants and adhesives Measuring and Process Systems: balancing and cleaning systems as well as testing and filling technology
  • Clean Technology Systems: exhaustair purification systems and energyefficiency technology
  • Woodworking Machinery and Systems: machinery for the woodworking

We are a growing organization and we are seeking a Commissioning Engineer to join our Paint and Final Assembly Systems division. Together with the momentum of our business vision we can achieve international success and added innovation in all of the themes which Drr influences at a global level.


Location: Southfield MI

Position Summary: The Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the commissioning of hardware and software to customer specifications. This is a field support position reporting to the Commissioning Manager and the Director of Operations. This position requires oversight/management and site supervision to meet the project goals and schedules. He or she must work closely with the individual site teams to ensure that installations are complete ready for startup and the necessary resources and plans are in place for a successful startup and launch. The position will involve travel and extended stays at the job site(s)


Essential Functions and Responsibilities


  • Provide commissioning for projects and products
  • Conduct equipment startup and debug
  • Verify hardwired installation
  • Debug controls hardware and software
  • Record baseline data and check list
  • Mark up drawing changes
  • Project performance and data collection
  • Input schedule
  • Produce daily site reports
  • Provide standby and customer support
  • Support field personnel
  • Support selection and controls of suppliers and Purchased Equipment vendors
  • Assist with installation supervision as needed
  • Work as part of a team on major projects or individually on smaller projects
  • Travel approximately 95

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required Bachelors degree or equivalent in an appropriate subject (e.g. engineering construction management) is preferred.
  • 5 or more years of position related experience in paint finishing products or in a similar industry. Working knowledge of paint finishing products preferred.
  • Familiar with basic electrical and mechanical engineering principals
  • Familiar with P&ID schematics and controls
  • Familiar with regulatory standards (OSHA NFPA BOCA)
  • Working knowledge of PLCs (e.g. Allen Bradley Rockwell Siemens)
  • Able to read and interpret AutoCAD drawings
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office: Word Excel and PowerPoint
  • Knowledge of SAP is a plus
  • Good time management skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Good verbal communication skills
  • Good technical writing skills
  • Able to work well independently and in a team environment
  • Able to technically define problems and propose solutions
  • Adaptable to change in a learning environment
  • Willing and able to work overtime weekends and holidays when necessary

Physical Demands: While performing duties of job incumbent is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; and use hands and arms. Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision and distance vision.
