Toole Design Group in Austin TX is looking to hire an experienced and talented fulltime Senior Engineer to join our team as part of the City of Austins Active Transportation and Street Design Division (ATSD). A Day in the Life of a Senior Engineer
You lead support and mentor your team to deliver creative solutions for challenging quickbuild projects. Like larger capital projects which are predominantly constructed with asphalt and concrete materials quickbuild projects are meant to be built quickly using a variety of materials flexible delivery processes and funding mechanisms that are developing rapidly. You will share your knowledge with the augmented staff team and the client delivering quickbuild multimodal transportation infrastructure projects in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconfigurations in highly urban settings to full intersection reconstructions to better serve all users. You help to lead a diverse team to develop project scopes concept plans and ultimately deliver final construction plan documents. You will use drafting programs such as MicroStation to fulfill project deliverables while ensuring that our projects are consistently of the highest quality. You will also have access to key leaders within the City of Austins transportation department who will help to set clear project goals and outcomes.
Rapid implementation is exciting and fastpaced but you get to work with a closeknit motivated team that is passionate about the work they do. You will get to see your projects evolve from paper to pavement transforming the City of Austin and getting to use the facilities you helped design.
Qualifications of a Senior Engineer:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in civil engineering with a focus on transportation
- Professional Engineering license
- 10 years of experience developing construction design documents for roadways or highways
- Experience developing and designing multimodal projects and a strong interest in multimodal and active transportation design
- A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with a transportation focus and specific knowledge of horizontal and vertical roadway geometric design (MUTCD and AASHTO)
- Proficiency in CADD: MicroStation/AutoCAD
- General experience in coordinating utility and rightofway impacts and street lighting traffic signal and landscape/hardscape layout
- Experience developing construction documents cost estimates
- Exposure to construction management
- Additional experience with traffic operations expertise and awareness of best practice for multimodal design (NACTO) a plus
- Experience coordinating utility rightofway street lighting traffic signals landscape and hardscape layout from design to construction a plus

Work Schedule for a Senior Engineer:
This fulltime position typically works a flexible schedule of 40 hours a week. We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 23 days per week. This position is part of our fulltime onsite staff augmentation contract we have with the City of Austins Transportation Department.
Since 2017 a team of Toole Design engineers have provided fulltime onsite staff augmentation to the City of Austins Transportation and Public Works Department to deliver Mobility Bond projects focusing on bikeway pedestrian and transit related infrastructure. The contract supports many of the City departments including Bikeways Safe Routes to School Sidewalk and Urban Trails Speed Management Vision Zero and Transit Enhancement work in partnership with the Capital Metro Transportation Authority.
