Job Description

Expected hours of work per week: 1015

Work Location & Hours: Psychology Commons

Purpose of the Position:

Psychology Department Assistants support the daytoday functioning of the Psychology Department tutor students and assist professors with other course or researchrelated tasks.

Qualifications for Position:

  • Fulltime student
  • Psychology major or minor
  • At least sophomore status

Expected Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform courserelated administrative tasks for professors
  • Assist psychology faculty with research tasks (e.g. acquiring sources entering data coding)
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all student grades assignments and research participation
  • Maintain a clean and welcoming space in the Psychology Commons
  • Tutor students in Introductory Psychology Statistics and other courses as appropriate

Skills Workers may Develop or Strengthen in this Position:

  • Data coding and analysis
  • Organization confidentiality responsibility hospitality
  • Familiarity with the research process in psychology
  • Teaching and tutoring skills

Resume skills development (NACE Competencies required by employers) to be developed

  • Career & SelfDevelopment including being willing to learn new skills in relation to research or managing the Psychology Commons
  • Communication in the form of welcoming new people tutoring and encouraging students and working with professors
  • Critical Thinking in the form of solving problems in research or courserelated contexts

  • Leadership through managing completing and evaluating research and courserelated projects
