Position Title: Summer Program Assistant (Chinese Speaking)
Yet Keen Seniors Day Centre

Hourly Rate:$17.20

Department:Family Community Health and Harm Reduction

Reporting to:Program Coordinator Yet Keen Seniors Day Centre

Type: Contract 30 hours per week 9 weeks in total)

Benefits:4 in lieu of vacation

Position start and end date:June 23 2025 August 22 2025

Job Summary

Yet Keen is a day program under SWCHC that promotes the physical and mental wellbeing of Chinesespeaking seniors. Yet Keen operates in a hybrid model to offer both virtual and phone programming to seniors as well as inperson programs. The Summer Program Assistant will be responsible for supporting the and delivery of these programs and providing coaching for seniors to use technology to participate socially. In addition the Summer Program Assistant will support the program to digitize its archive and revamp its blog.

Applicants must be aged 30 or under*. As part of the federal Canada Summer Jobs program there is a mentorship component that would allow youth to learn as they go. Please note that this position requires inperson work on site.

*Candidates do not have to be a current student.

Job Specific Responsibilities

  • Generates content for the program blog by organizing existing content translating between English and Chinese and uploading materials to the Wordpress site as needed
  • Generates blog content of Yet Keen history based on archival materials
  • Offers regular technical coaching sessions to seniors to support them in participating virtually
  • Supports promotion of the program by creating posters and web images
  • Supports inperson activities by setting up program space and taking attendance
  • Perform administrative duties as required (e.g. Inputting and organizing attendance data preparing monthly calendar mailing)
  • Assists the Yet Keen team in organizing and hosting special events such as birthday parties
  • Hosts regular online classes and activities on Zoom takes attendance and tackles any technical issues as needed
  • Participates in cross team meetings and supports colleagues in the Community Engagement Team at SWCHC if needed

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in blog update and maintenance (Wordpress and Blogspot) Zoom and graphic design (Canva)
  • Demonstrated interest in working with seniors or the Chinese Canadian communities
  • Ability to work in a team as well as independently
  • Effective at communicating (both verbal and written) and problem solving
  • Selfmotivated resourceful reliable punctual detailoriented
  • Understanding and analysis of the importance of equity and antioppressive practices in seniors service
  • Criminal Reference check for working with vulnerable populations
  • Experience working with marginalized populations facing multiple barriers is a bonus

Language Capability

  • English written and spoken is essential
  • Written Chinese and reading comprehension is required
  • Ability to speak Cantonese and/or Mandarin is required
    (Cantonese is prioritized due to demographic of the membership)

(a) is between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;

(b) is a Canadian Citizen permanent resident or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under theImmigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and

(c) is legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
