Position Overview
The Illinois State Police (ISP) is seeking a highly motivated and detailoriented Internal Security Investigator I to support the Public Safety Servies Regulatory section within the Division of Justice responsible research and investigative law enforcement work as a member of the Illinois State Police regarding enforcement of state laws and rules relating to the state cannabis higher level investigators and participates in investigations involving diversion financial exploitation and other crimes perpetrated against the Medical Cannabis Patient Program Act Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act and the Cannabis Control Act by providing routine documentary evidence for use in prosecutable or rule violation actions including compiling and gathering relevant data; applies modem technical investigative law enforcement techniques and routine investigative reports on activities and investigations in courts of law or administrative hearings regarding evidence obtained through official investigations.

Essential Functions
- Performs inspections of Illinois cannabis entities.
- Responsible for maintaining investigative and regulatory records and files pertaining to cases under investigation and ensuring security of such information.
- Assists higher level investigators and participates in regulatory and criminal investigations to prepare and procure statements exhibits reports and other pertinent information of an evidentiary or regulatory nature for use in the formal adjudication of cases in a court of law as provided by state criminal statutes as necessary.
- Develops and maintains effective liaisons with city county and state law enforcement officials as well as other interested governmental officials in order to ensure an integrated and cooperative law enforcement effort.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of two 2 years college with coursework in law government liberal arts history or business or public administration plus three 3 years of experience in law enforcement investigatory work or related field; or Requires knowledge skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four 4 years of college with major coursework in law government liberal arts history or business or public administration plus one 1 year professional experience in law enforcement investigatory work or a related field; or Requires completion of the F.B.I. National Academy or comparable law enforcement schooling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers one 1 year experience using modern law enforcement investigatory techniques and concepts.
- Prefers one 1 year experience working with the functions and interrelationships of state agencies.
- Prefers one 1 year experience using Illinois State statutes rules and regulations.
- Prefers one 1 year experience recognizing and gathering appropriate statements exhibits and materials acceptable for use in prosecution of cases or disciplinary action.
- Prefers one 1 year experience maintaining security during investigatory activities.
- Prefers one 1 year experience preparing reports for referral to a prosecuting agency or regulatory agency.
- Prefers one 1 year experience working with Illinois Medical Cannabis Patient Program Cannabis Regulation and Tax Act and the Cannabis Control Act.
- Prefers one 1 year experience communicating with a wide range of individuals.
- Prefers one 1 year experience working with Bio Track software or similar software.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass a background check drug test and fingerprinting.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate valid drivers license.
