Job Description

Established as a community nonprofit in 1972 The Center provides targeted programs and services to the full diversity of the San Diego LGBTQ community. The mission of The Center is to enhance and sustain the health and wellbeing of the lesbian gay bisexual queer transgender nonbinary immigrant and HIV communities for the betterment of our entire San Diego region. Our vision is to create a Center and Center culture where every person feels and knows they are welcomed valued and supported. As the beacon for our regional LGBTQ community we actively recommit to being a more vibrant bold innovative safe and modern center each day than the day before. The Center is sexpositive and provides advocacy critical health and social support services to support our community members through all stages of life while focusing on our deeply held values of equity social justice and clientcentered traumainformed care. The Center currently has over 100 staff working at 11 facilities across San Diego County.

POSITION SUMMARY

This position has three primary function areas: client support community engagement and administrative duties. Under the supervision of the Director of Community Programs the Black Services Manager (BSM) provides direction and coordination of the Black Services Program. The BSPM will serve as the Centers main resource owner for all aspects of implementing and maintaining the program objectives. Using their professional and lived experience the BSPC will help connect the Center to the Black LGTBQ community and the community to The Center for greater interaction and support opportunities. This position will begin in July 2025.

PRIMARY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Program Development/Coordination:

  • Serve as the owner of all program documentation materials work plans and budgets
  • Collaborate with The Centers Black LGBTQ Community Advisory Committee on program relevance and feasibility for the Black LGBTQ community.
  • Serve as the liaison between the Center and the Black LGBTQ community
  • Work with Center staff to conduct and analyze the San Diego Power Analysis for the Black LGBTQ Community
  • Conduct targeted outreach for the San Diego Black LGBTQ community
  • Regularly assess the program based on political climate/focus to ensure program relevance.

Client Support:

  • Connect Black clients to the full range of programs and services of The Center
  • Provide medical and nonmedical case management information and referrals to Black clients
  • Refer Black clients to necessary resources (culturally proficient information organizations providers and services) and provide client advocacy as clients navigate resource challenges
  • Provide appropriate and relevant group and workshop coordination and facilitation including guidance/supervision of facilitators

Community Interaction:

  • Serve as an active member of the Services Integration team including participating in collaborative team initiatives like Food Banks Employment Fairs etc.
  • Coordinate recreational educational and social justice programming with and for the Black LGBTQ community
  • Build connections/relationships and collaborate with other local statewide and national Black LGBTQ organizations and community partners with a focus on the San Diego Social Justice organizations
  • Work with the Communications Department to produce the Black Quarterly Newsletter

Required Qualifications:

  1. Education and/or Experience: Three years of professional/lived experience working in direct social services or social justice organizing roles preferably within or serving the Black LGBTQ community. Experience navigating the San Diego Black LGBTQ community and other queer organizations.
  2. Other Skills: Must demonstrate competence in working with diverse populations ability to manage multiple tasks with shifting priorities and work in various team settings. Must also demonstrate sound judgment and decisionmaking skills the ability and availability to work evenings and weekends and travel locally throughout the region when necessary. Lived experience as a member of a historically underserved community (i.e. lowincome BIPOC communities LGBTQ communities immigrant communities etc. preferred. Event/program management grant support/management.
  3. Language Skills: Fluency in English is required.

preferred QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Education and/or Experience: Three years of professional/lived experience in program development/management in the Black LGBTQ community.
  2. Language Skills: Fluency in Spanish is preferred.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • Compensation: The pay range for this position is $27.00 $30.00/hour and is commensurate with experience. This is a FullTime Regular NonExempt
