Job Description

California State University San Bernardino (CSUSB) is a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire region of Southern California. JOB SUMMARY

The Department of World Languages and Literatures invites applications for the position of Teaching Associate (TA) for introductory Spanish courses.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES

The TA will be responsible for teaching one introductory Spanish course preparing weekly lessons holding office hours evaluating student work proctoring examinations maintaining/submitting student records (e.g. grades) evaluating student assignments and performing other tasks as assigned.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelors degree in Spanish (or related discipline)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in Spanish (or related discipline)
  • Degree in hand by time of appointment (Bachelors degree in Spanish or related discipline)
  • Prior coursework/training in language teaching (SPAN 6615 or the equivalent)
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at CSUSB
  • Must maintain academic eligibility throughout employment period 3.0 GPA or higher)
  • Must be able to work cooperatively with faculty staff and other students

PREFERREDQUALIFICATIONS

  • Teaching experience

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 as a condition of employment.

Following a conditional offer of employment a background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate may start work with CSUSB. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may result in the withdrawal of the offer of employment. ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of World Languages and Literatures offers the M.A. degree in Spanish B.A. degrees in Arabic French and Spanish and several certificate programs and minors (including Japanese). In addition we offer courses in American Sign Language (ASL) Chinese Korean and California indigenous languages. The university has established an exchange program with Seijo University in Tokyo. Students can also participate in CSU International Programs in China Japan South Korea and many other countries. The department sponsors a variety of cultural events (Japan Expo Anime Expo Cosplay Runway Event Korean Festival etc. and student clubs (American X Japanese Cross Cultural Club Korean Culture Club etc..
