This position works 40 weeks per year (AugMay) with a 12 week break in the summer but is paid and benefited yearround. While this position is nonexempt it is paid a biweekly salary of $1045.66 per pay period (equivalent to $27187.16 per year).

The typical schedule for this position during the 40 working weeks is Monday through Friday from 8am5pm with some nights and weekends during productions.

Job Description

Position Overview:
Creates design research and fully designed scenery for up to 5 productions per fiscal year. Paints scenery for assigned productions and maintains paint shop stock and organization. Assists with props procurement and creation. Productions may include theatrical plays musicals dance concerts and operas. Works closely with Technical Director and Stage Coordinator to ensure that designed scenery is completed on time and within budget. This position works 40 hours per week for 40 weeks during the school year with 12 weeks off during the summer.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

Develop design research for productions leading to finalized scenic design renderings or storyboards in collaboration with the Director. Work closely with Technical Director on build cost and expenses and help to ensure that the vision for the design is fully carried out. Must stay within established budget and maintain accurate record of expenses according to university policies. Work with Technical Director to develop a schedule which will ensure timely completion of scenery & paint. Provide finalized design drawings by assigned due dates and assist Technical Director in the planning purchasing and implementation of assigned productions. Assist with props procurement and creation and take primary responsibility for pulling furniture and scenic dressing. Responsible for and supervision of scenic painting for assigned productions. Purchase paint supplies as needed and maintain organization of paint shop. Work closely with undergraduate students in a handson production environment. Instruct student workers in proper scenic procedures and techniques as needed. Attend all design and production meetings technical rehearsals dress rehearsals and strike of assigned design productions. Establish and maintain a safe educational working environment. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Experience Required

Requires a university degree in related field or 4 years of professional work experience that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories principles and concepts.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must be knowledgeable about current practices in design and . Proven record of ability to instruct students on scenery procedures/techniques. Experience in accurately creating and interpreting scenic and lighting drawings. Proven experience with AutoCAD and/or Vectorworks for producing scenic drawings. Demonstrated ability to adhere to production budgets deadlines and protocols. Evidence of excellent written oral and interpersonal communication skills. Must be selfmotivated.
