GENERAL PURPOSE
Performs a variety of routine unskilled and semiskilled duties related to maintenance and upkeep of animals and animal shelter.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of the Animal Control Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Performs general hygiene duties for animals; feeds and waters uses high pressure wash equipment as needed to hose out pens applies approved cleaning agents as needed to clean kennel isolation area and cattery mops floors; disinfects kennel areas in accordance with proper disease control requirements.
Assures welfare and care of animals within the shelter meets established standards during all shelter operations.
Performs routine maintenance and grounds keeping duties; cleans office area and facility environs; operates lawn and grounds care equipment as needed to groom building surroundings; performs minor facility repairs.
Performs as animal control clerk; redeems impounds and adopts animals by collecting and receipting the required fees including dog license fees; maintains records of the same.
Provides information to the public by responding to telephone calls and assisting walkin public; provides factual information as directed by supervisors.
Receives and processes complaints; apprises animal control officers of complaints and provides pertinent details essential for response and action.
Places incoming animals in kennels an retrieves outgoing animals; provides general assistance to the public assists in locating lost and found animals; assists public in adoption processes.
Performs related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Some knowledge of proper kennel cleaning methods; animal behavior; local or typical animal regulations and ordinance; first aid for injured sick or diseased (contagious) animals; animal nutrition; rabies control; basic hand tools; basic animal care practices particularly related to cats and dogs; of basic arithmetic; animal segregation isolation and handling; basic office procedures and record keeping functions; basic euthanasia methods.
Ability to follow routine verbal or written instructions; communicate effectively (verbal) with the public; make basic arithmetic calculations accurately and quickly in making or giving change; perform strenuous physical labor; work with animals (dogs and cats); tolerate obnoxious odors in the work environment; develop effective working relationships with supervisor fellow employees and the public.
Must possess a valid Utah State Drivers License.
Tasks require a variety of physical activities periodically involving muscular strain related to walking standing stooping sitting and reaching. Essential functions require talking hearing and seeing. Mental application utilizes memory for details emotional stability and discriminating thinking and creative problem solving. Elements of the job pose various degrees of hazard uncertainty common to animal control and animal impoundment. Common eye hand finger dexterity required to perform essential functions.
As per Washington City policy and/or procedures a background check and drug screening evaluation will be required for potential new hire candidates prior to an offer of employment. I understand that if I am under the age of 18 I must have my parent or my legal guardian grant their permission for the background check and drug screening test to be performed.
