POSITION:Under general direction provides professional nutrition services to County Health Department program clients; supervises the Registered Dietitians and nutrition function of a program or clinic; and performs related duties as required.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS: Incumbents in this class are responsible for providing nutrition services to individuals and/or families in addition to supervising the activities of other professional and paraprofessional staff in an assigned program or clinic. Duties involve the full scope of a Registered Dietitian.

Nutrition Services Program:
The Nutrition Site Supervisor is a member of the Nutrition Services team within the County Health department. The Nutrition Site Supervisor assists in programmatic projects at a countywide level for Nutrition Services participants and community partners. Core activities include collaborating with community partners to reach shared nutrition and physical activity goals such as active transportation school wellness policies and Parks Rx initiatives as well as providing direct education and outreach to healthcare providers and community members on topics such as nutrition physical activity breast feeding and WIC. The Nutrition Site Supervisor will develop and conduct staff trainings.

Possession of a bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in nutrition and dietetics AND possession of a dietitian registration with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics; AND:
Additional Qualifications:
Knowledge of: human nutrition and its relationship to health and disease; current trends and issues in public health nutrition; methods of nutrition and dietary assessments and developing a care plan; comparative costs of foods in relation to their nutritional value; the nutritional habits or cultural needs of program participants; community resources and services; counseling techniques; educational methods appropriate for adults and adolescents; standard English grammar and usage; standard office software laws and regulations governing public health nutrition programs specifically WIC policies work of other social and health agencies as well as functions of other professions related to nutrition laws and regulations regarding MNT and nutrition appointments per CPSP FQHC MediCal and Medicare
Ability to: learn nutrition principles and practices during infancy childhood pregnancy and breastfeeding; learn and apply the principles and practices of supervision; interpret and apply WIC program rules and regulations; analyze diets for nutritional adequacy; establish rapport with and motivate individuals from diverse backgrounds; prepare and maintain client records and reports; monitor and direct the work of professional paraprofessional and clerical support staff; organize and prioritize work assignments for self and subordinate staff; identify operational problems and implement or recommend improvements; establish and maintain effective working relationships with superiors coworkers staff and the general public; prepare reports; maintain client confidentiality; work independently.
Desirable Qualifications: Previous experience as a Nutritionist in a Women Infants and Children program and supervisory experience are highly desirable.

Candidates must receive a percentage score of at least 70 on the supplemental questionnaire ranking to be placed on an employment list. An adjustment may be made to raw scores based on factors listed in Civil Service Rule VI. Those candidates who are successful in the selection process will have their names placed on the employment list for a minimum of three months. At the time the employment list is established all candidates will receive written notice of their score on the exam(s) rank on the employment list and exact duration of the employment list.

The County of Santa Barbara Health Department (County Health) requires all employees working in direct contact with patients or clients in a highrisk environment to comply with the County Health Employee Immunizations policy. This can be accomplished by providing documentation of immunizations submitting laboratory immune titers demonstrating adequate immunity or obtaining required vaccinations. A list of requirements based on the specific program will be sent at the time an offer letter is presented to the selected candidate(s) and initial documentation will be required at this time.
Conditional Job Offer:Once a conditional offer of employment has been made the selected candidate will be required to successfully complete a background check which includes a conviction history check and satisfactory reference checks. Appointee will also be subject to a postoffer medical examination. Appointee must satisfactorily complete a 12 twelvemonth probationary period.
