Position: Plant Operator I
Department: Wastewater Treatment Plant
Reports To: Wastewater Treatment Plant Superintendent
FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Pay: $15.05/hour
DESCRIPTION
The Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I role involves monitoring regulating and adjusting equipment to ensure the efficient and safe treatment of wastewater before discharge. The operator will work within established guidelines to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and ensure the proper functioning of all treatment processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
High School Diploma/GED is required.
Must possess a valid Drivers License (Class C) at time of placement.
Class D Wastewater Operator License issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) or ability to obtain within 6 months of eligibility.
Ability to obtain a class C Wastewater Operator License is required within nine 9 months of eligibility.
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of wastewater treatment processes equipment and regulations.
Proficiency in using computer systems and software for data analysis and reporting.
Good communication skills both written and verbal and the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Precision in conducting inspections recording data and maintaining accurate logs and reports regarding plant operations.
Capacity to assess challenges analyze options and implement solutions to enhance plant efficiency and performance.
Availability for flexible schedules and a prompt response to emergency situations.
MAJOR DUTIES
This is an entrylevel position. The employee performs a range of wastewater treatment activities in a developing capacity under the direction of a certified wastewater treatment operator.
Operate and maintain equipment and systems for the treatment of wastewater within the citys facilities.
Monitor and adjust treatment processes to ensure efficient and effective operation.
Conduct regular inspections and preventive maintenance on machinery and treatment systems.
Analyze data from various instruments and perform laboratory tests to assess water quality.
Implement corrective measures and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions as needed.
Maintain accurate records reports and logs related to plant operations and regulatory compliance.
Collaborate with team members and management to improve plant efficiency and effectiveness.
Adhere strictly to safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment.
Other duties as assigned.
