The Communications Team

The Communications Teams goal is to ensure that residents and businesses have access to trusted accurate and easytounderstand information. The communications team manages multiple communications channels and develops content for each channel including the following:

In addition the team responds to media inquiries; coordinates city news announcements; supports city departments and divisions with public education efforts; and manages internal communications.

The City of Rancho Cordovas Communications & Public Affairs Department is seeking two 2student interns to work with the Citys Communications Team. The individuals should have a desire to assist with communications marketing and public relations projects. The ideal candidates would have strong writing and organizational skills; knowledge of researching and drafting website content; and the ability to work in a fastpaced environment.

Strong proficiency in the following areas is essential for success in this role:
  • Microsoft Office (Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Social Media Channels (Facebook Instagram X Nextdoor)
    • Additional experience with the following tools is highly desirable but not required: Adobe InDesign Photoshop Constant Contact Canva and website content management systems.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing
  • Maintain attention to detail and a high level of organization
  • Exhibit proficiency in use of modern office methods and equipment
  • Interact professionally with residents businesses and other City staff
  • Work in a fastpaced environment and meet deadlines

This position is limited to no more than 25 hours per week; 1000 hours per fiscal year July 1 June 30.
Candidates must be enrolled in school during the course of employment.

HOW TO APPLY

Submit an online application to with your online application a copy of your school schedule that demonstrates that you are currently enrolled in at least 6 or more qualifying units. The documentation must show your name school name and courses (with credits) you are enrolled in. Enrollment must be for Summer 2025 or Fall 2025 semester/quarter.

Applications will be screened by the Human Resources Department for minimum qualifications. Qualifying applicants may be contacted by the Department to interview. Final appointment is contingent upon a check of past employment references passing a Citypaid fingerprint check and depending on position applied for a preemployment medical exam and a drug and alcoholscreening test.




ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Research techniques methods and procedures
  • English usage spelling and punctuation
Ability to:
  • Communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Collect compile analyze and interpret statistical data.
  • Exhibit proficiency in use of modern office methods and equipment

EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS & MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: College coursework and experience related to Public Relations Marketing Communications English and related majors.

Education: Must be currently enrolled in six or more units towards a Bachelors or Masters degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the area of assignment.

Experience: Previous internships for news organizations or Public Relations agencies is desirable.

License or Certificate: Possession of a valid CA Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record as determined by the City.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

Requires the mobility and manual dexterity to work in a standard office environment use standard office equipment; speech and hearing to communicate in person and by telephone; vision to read handwritten and printed materials and a computer screen; strength and agility to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; emotional and psychological capability to work alone concentrate or have frequent public and/or coworker accommodations may be made for some physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodations.
