Job Description

Upholsterer Qualifications


  • Four 4 years total documented experience repairing and maintaining a variety of aviation upholstery related items.

  • High school diploma or equivalent (unless higher education is required for a particular job category).

  • Ability to read write speak and understand English fluently.

  • Shall be a citizen of the U.S.

  • Possess computer skills to include basic knowledge sufficient to complete internet searches and prepare/edit documents utilizing word processing or spreadsheet applications.

  • Shall be capable of performing tasks that frequently require lifting reaching bending walking pulling sitting standing crouching stooping kneeling and stretching for prolonged periods of time (applies to all industrial areas and aircraft touch labor categories).

  • Shall be capable of performing tasks in cramped awkward and strained positions and/or climbing up and down ladders work platforms scaffolding and aircraft structures (applies to all industrial areas and aircraft touch labor categories).

  • Shall be capable of carrying items up to 40 pounds and on heavier items shall seek assistance of other workers or weightlifting devices (applies to all industrial areas and aircraft touch labor categories).

  • Shall be capable of using cumbersome Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) operations (applies to all industrial areas and aircraft touch labor categories).


Upholsterer Tasks

The upholsterer tasks include but are not limited to:


  • Operate commercial heavy duty sewing machines doing repairs and fabrications of fabric equipment and general experience disassembling seat cushion covers making templates and sewing new covers from material such as sheep skin and other leathers for installation on the cushions.

  • Build templates for all insulation blankets and have experience with installation of grommets snaps and other retention devices used for retention of material in a variety of locations.

  • Operate a sewing machine to seam cushions and join various sections of covering materials may repair frame of work piece repair seats from various types of vehicles repair a variety of items requiring special shaping cushioning and covering including aircraft insulation and soundproofing panels repair special device and assemblies and other items such as carpets inflatable shelters and tents made of canvas and other fabrics.

  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.

  • Maintain high state of cleanliness and utilize a cleanasyougo process when executing maintenance duties.

  • Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walkdowns.

  • Maintain situational awareness and mitigate risks.

  • Comply with processes and procedures as per DHS/Department of Defense (DoD) documents and publications.

  • Maintain and control tools. Report missing lost found or unattended tools to the onsite supervisor immediately upon discovery. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and identify when to replace worn or broken tools.

  • Clean work area as necessary assuring all flammable or otherwise hazardous materials are properly stored; handle and dispose of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable laws and regulatory requirements.

  • Comply with safety rules and procedures and perform work in a manner that enhances the safety of procedures to the onsite supervisor.

  • Use Government computer system to access various technical references for airframe repairs and Government training requirements.

  • Provide satisfactory customer service.
