Reports to: Satellite Program Manager
Classification: Seasonal nonexempt
Hourly rate: $2535/hour depending on experience/certifications
Location & Dates:
Virtual Training June 1213 & June 1618
Milwaukee Wisconsin
3 weeks of camp: July 1418 July 2125 July 28Aug 1
Job Description:
Join Girlstarts efforts to educate and empower girls! Girlstarts Summer Counselors (called STEM CREW Creative Resourceful Empowered Workforce) work directly with 4th8th grade girls leading handson science technology engineering and math activities at weekly day camps. Improve your classroom management skills (including problem solving critical thinking & decisionmaking) teaching style (communication & presentation skills) leadership abilities be part of a diverse team and gain curriculumwriting experience. STEM CREW counselors serve as positive and fun role models for the girls!

Successful STEM CREW need to be comfortable traveling to and from their campsite ready to work hard and most importantly understand that Girlstart cant control everything going into a new environment so they need to be flexible. Additionally Girlstart relies on this team of STEM CREW to be the face of our organization and we need to know and trust that the team can make the best decisions based on the situation at hand. Anyone from college students to veteran teachers are welcome to apply!
Responsibilities:
- Lead camp curriculum focused on science technology engineering and math (previous STEM experience not required curriculum and materials provided by Girlstart)
- Implement and run daily camp activities
- Learn and implement the Girlstart method within camp environment
- Modify activities as needed accommodate any unique camp scenarios
- Be prepared to lead icebreakers organize materials practice/setup technology etc.
- Facilitate classroom management techniques
- Act as a positive role model for girls
- HAVE FUN!!!
- Other duties as needed
Qualifications:
- Teacher certification preferred or related experience in youth programming
- Positive friendly flexible and outgoing
- Selfmotivated with the ability to work as a team player and foster cooperative work
- Reliable dependable and timely
- Effective organization skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
- Excellent communication skills
- Personal qualities of integrity credibility and a commitment to the mission of Girlstart
- Experience working at summer camps and/or out of school time programming
- Knowledge of educational learning standards and best practices for classroom management
- Comfortable presenting to a group of youth
All STEM CREW Counselors Must:
- Complete asynchronous Girlstart training videos ahead of virtual training on June 1213 & 1618
- Work the complete duration of the camps ideal schedule approximately 7:45am5:00pm (hours vary from camp to camp and exceptions can be discussed)
- Pass a background and fingerprint check be or become First Aid/CPR certified and obtain a Sexual Abuse Awarenesss certificate (Girlstart will provide additional information upon hire)
- Abide by partners requirements to work with youth
