We are seeking an experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) to join our esteemed grammar school in Reading. The Design and Technology Department is a key part of our curriculum where students explore practical skills and develop critical thinking abilities across a wide range of subjects including food technology. As an Experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) you will play a vital role in ensuring that our students not only excel in food technology but also understand its impact on society health and the environment.

The Role

As an Experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) you will be responsible for delivering engaging and intellectually stimulating lessons in food technology to students in Key Stage 3 Key Stage 4 and potentially Key Stage 5. Your role will include both theoretical instruction on nutrition food science and sustainability as well as practical teaching to help students master cooking techniques and food preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Delivering HighQuality Lessons: Plan deliver and assess a range of lessons that challenge and inspire students with a focus on practical skills such as cooking techniques food safety and nutrition.
  • Curriculum Leadership: Collaborate with the department to continuously develop and refine the food technology curriculum ensuring it aligns with the schools academic standards and meets the needs of highachieving students.
  • Advanced Skills Development: Guide students through more advanced topics such as the science of food sustainable food systems and the cultural impact of food. Encourage students to explore complex ideas and foster their independent learning.
  • Assessment and Feedback: Monitor student progress provide meaningful feedback and implement strategies to support student success. Utilize data to inform teaching and improve outcomes.
  • Student Engagement: Inspire students to develop a deep understanding of food technology from practical cooking skills to the critical analysis of foodrelated issues such as health and sustainability.
  • Mentoring and Leadership: Take a leadership role in the department mentoring less experienced staff and contributing to the professional development of your colleagues.
  • ExtraCurricular Activities: Lead or contribute to extracurricular initiatives such as cooking clubs foodrelated events and student competitions enhancing the wider food culture within the school.

What We Are Looking For

We are seeking an experienced DT Teacher (Food Technology) who can bring both subject expertise and leadership skills to our dynamic department.

You will have:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in Food Technology Home Economics or a related field.
  • Extensive experience teaching food technology at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 with the ability to teach Key Stage 5 an advantage.
  • Indepth knowledge of food technology nutrition culinary arts and food sustainability.
  • Leadership experience or a desire to take on leadership responsibilities within the department.
  • The ability to differentiate lessons and engage students at all ability levels ensuring each student reaches their full potential.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to inspire and motivate students to achieve their best.
  • A commitment to academic excellence with a passion for teaching and the development of young people.
