About the Role
Playing a significant role in ensuring the safety and security of your Centre as well as in the rehabilitation and reintegration ofoffenders you will:
- Handle a Case Management portfolio of offenders assigned to you where you provide first line and quality support in addressing their offending behaviour
- Actively support and work collaboratively with the Centers multidisciplinary team including Clinicians Health and Mental Health staff and Alliance Partners
- Conduct daily head counts and search for contraband
- Escort offenders to various appointments including hospital visits and court appearances
- Manage the visitors area of the prison and oversee offenders visitation sessions
- Conduct perimeter searches of the prison and control access of people in and out of the facility
Most shifts worked are 12 hours which provides an excellent worklife facility operates 24/7 so you will be required to work a mix of day night public holiday and weekend shifts once your training is completed.

No previous experience in a similar role or any particular qualifications are required to be successful in this position. Instead what we value is life experience resilience and maturity. Whilst we will provide extensive training and support this role isnt for everyone and as such we look for people who can show the following attributes:

Mandatory requirements
As well as successfully completing our recruitment and selection process to gain employment you will:
- Be an Australian Citizen or a New Zealand Citizen who has entered Australia on a valid passport or be a Permanent Resident of Australia
- Hold a current unrestricted Drivers Licence for the relevant State
- Have the ability to obtain a satisfactory national security clearance
About theTraining
As a Registered Training Provider (number 3570 GEO offers a wide variety of training programs which are nationally accredited.
Prior to commencement all Correctional Officers complete a fulltime paid 8week Training Course and also work toward completing aCertificate III in Correctional Practice (CSC30122.
This 8week preservice course will commence on Monday 08 September 2025 and will graduate on Friday 31 October 2025. All successful applicants will receive at least 4 weeks notice prior to the commencement of the course.Should you be offered employment you will need to attend for the entirety of the course. Some weekend work will apply due to the nature of the training.
About theRemuneration
Commencing Trainee Correctional Officer rate is $33.86 p/h whilst you complete your training.
The casual rate of pay upon course completion is $47.03 p/h. Should you successfully complete the course and gain fulltime employment depending on Centre location you will be paid a base salary of $82173.65. There is the ability to increase earnings by working additional shifts or overtime when available. All rates of pay will be in line with established Enterprise Agreement.
