Job Description

Description / Position Overview


OEM Coordinator
Pikes Peak Regional Office of Emergency Management

In this position you will interact with the public coordinate with City and County departments mutual aid jurisdictions state and federal departments and other agencies. You will assist the OEM Director and Deputy Directors in mitigation preparedness response recovery and coordination for largescale emergencies and disasters for the purpose of saving lives preventing property damage and protecting the environment.


This Job Includes:
  • Collects evaluates and interprets complex information and data; and analyzes complex problems identifies alternative solutions and recommends conclusions.
  • Builds relationships with federal state and local community partners elected officials the public and contractors.
  • Provides education and responds to residents concerns.
  • Participates and assists in the development of emergency operations plans.
  • Coordinates the recovery and mitigation planning procedures and assists with the development of materials.
  • Participates with emergency management practices and procedural policies.
  • Supervises coordinates and trains staff and volunteers.
  • Designs and conducts training and exercise.
Relevant Knowledge and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of recovery and mitigation planning; emergency management practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of pertinent federal state and local laws codes and regulations including Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program and the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act
  • Knowledge of emergency operations plan development
  • Knowledge of public communication and social media administration
  • Knowledge of emergency operations practices and methodologies
  • Knowledge of exercise design
  • Ability to verify and analyze financial transactions; prepare and administer project budgets
  • Ability to build relationships with federal state and local community partners elected officials the public and contractors
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a related area of study.
  • Experience: Five years of fulltime professional experience in emergency management or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year experience in a lead or supervisory capacity
  • Experience in media relations
  • Experience leading and coordinating local disaster recovery activities
  • Experience developing and implementing recovery progress measures
  • Possess or be willing to obtain the FEMA Master Exercise Practitioner certification
